Why are there so many threads about Tim Russert's death on DU ??
Why can we not just ignore it? If it is not important, then why talk about it? Turn off your TV if it bothers you.

In my opinion, the people that knew Tim Russert have the right and the means to pay tribute to him if they wish. No doubt, many of them were shocked by his death. Just as we would be shocked if a close friend of ours died. Unfortunately, we do not have a TV network to pay tribute to our friends, or the boyscouts that died, or the GIs that died in Iraq and Afghanistan, but that does not mean it is wrong for Tim Russert's friends to remember him, does it?

So, why all the negative reactions here on DU? Let the people pay tribute to their friend. It's their airwaves, right? If they were not remembering Tim Russert, what would they be talking about? The prisons in Kentucky and California?

I think I will turn off the TV a while and mow the yard. And I will probably think about the passing of Tim Russert...

2. Why don't we have a TV network to pay tribute to the GIs who died in Iraq and Afghanistan?
The airwaves are supposed to be ours, not the private shrine of the media elite.

4. "It's their airwaves, right?"
Umm... No, they belong to us. Excluding the cable channels.

6. They used to belong to us all; but I guess corporate America does own them now.
So I guess they can eulogize their shill to their heart's content.

"In the public interest." Yeah. Sure.

What a pathetic, sick joke.

10. It's curious.
But I don't have cable TV and don't watch much regular off-the-air TV either.
