because raptor's posts were of the sort, like mine, that skated the dangerous ice occasionally. No tin foil about it. They have set up the systems that they could do this at the drop of a hat. Particularly if they knew who the loners were (no immediate family, spouse, etc. all easily retrievable info)they would take them first and quietly.

that's only 2 weeks, but I'm going to check his website and see if it's more updated than that. He was having some tooth problems, and working too - but he usually checks in with us on a regulatr basis.

Somebody needs to check on Philosoraptor - That last post of his didn't leave me with a good feeling! And his profile is disabled, too.

His post was filled with extreme feelings and hardly anyone responded to his post and when they did, it certainly did not address him or what he was trying to say....

29. I saw that post and thought he was being poetic in some way...

For a few days prior to that, I was doing this little tag-team thing with him when he did his posts naming the soldier who died and they I did some google research to post more deep background and photos about the soldier. It seemed very humanizing and made me appreciate what Philosoraptor had been doing for so long...

When I saw that last post of his, I thought he was being facetious, or speaking as if he were Bush or something... I wish I had paid more attention. Damn.

30. I really think, from reading his stuff.

that raptor has been very deeply and badly affected by this war. Not saying anyone else hasn't but I've seriously damaged my own well being by opening myself up to the reality of it so closely by talking to the troops and I can see he was with his daily reports. Everyone has empathy of course but some of us really absorb all aspects of other people's misery, unwittingly, more than others. I really feel it is possibly a physio/psycological condition because I do and I don't seem to be able to shield myself from it. I have deeply felt the hopelessness in these words myself for many reasons. The darkness is not an easy place to escape sometimes.

44. I believe that it's his.......hiatus is necessary, DU is serious work if

trying to make a difference or going through life changes. I disappeared for years at time as well only to return to find that many originals from 2001 had taken the spirit train. Where's CrewLeader or Jitterbug Perfume, I once asked the rhetorical question "Where's RBHam?" only to find a PM stating that he was lurking, not posting.....that was Sept. 09-03. What about the consortium calling itself Indiana Green, nothing but an anthill of folks could post that much and cover so many threads at once, yet IG will disappear for long periods then appear with a flurry of erudite, ascerbic posts then turn to smoke once again. I think IG might hang in I/P but I promised Skinner I wouldn't go there. Philosorapter might be hanging in one of DU's closets as well or might well have simply pushed away from the table.

As for the last post fit, that's frustration and self flagellation, a sure sign that it's time to push oneself away from the table. There can be a beautiful world beyond the sometimes sordid topics we attend to here.

I remember a post from years ago when the mods locked a post when a poster in Oveido, Fl (I know your name, but I love you) got a bit uptight about Agent Mike laying about his house in the dark and noting the rooms with lights on and those without. The Mods locked the thread and went into serious PM intervention vis a vis paranoid intervention. That's not to say that Agent Mike wasn't in the bushes but that he/she shouldn't be so concerned because there were so many of us to hide within.

Philosoraptor is pursuing other avenues of fulfillment, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
As to the posters whose comments I miss, well timing is everything I suppose........."Where's MoPaul?" chuckle.
