Les Paul is 93 today and still plays at clubs
Les Paul (born Lester William Polsfuss on June 9, 1915) is an American jazz guitarist and inventor.
He is a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which "made the sound of rock and roll possible."

His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects and multitrack recording. In 2003, he was named the 46th best guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone although many seasoned rock artists feel he should have been rated much higher because of his longevity and guitar achievements and innovations.

1. I bet that "still playing in clubs" is part of the reason he made it to 93

There's a lot to be said for staying busy.

EDIT:

I wanted to add that when I went to college in Waukesha about a million years ago, we tried to get the city to honor him with a statue.

The city didn't want to. Which was too bad -- It's about all that Waukesha has going for it...

9. It was about 25 years ago
I think the problem was that they didn't want to pay for it, and we weren't able to raise enough money on our own in those pre-internet days. Nowadays, I bet someone could put up a website and raise enough to pay for it in a few weeks.

2. He plays Monday nights at Iridium in Times Square.
I have been meaning to scrape together the cash to see him. I think I will regret it if I blow off the opportunity.

5. I look forward to seeing Les live when I get the chance
Here's the page about him from the Iridium web site.

Hmmm...wonder what John McCain will be doing 22 years from now?

My father loved Les Paul and Mary Ford.

Brings back good memories for me.

6. See BartCop's recent New York trip report for Bart's encounter with Les Paul.
BartCop and Mrs BartCop just had a whirlwind visit to Big Apple, the apex of which was ringside seats at a Les Paul show. He writes all about it in his latest trip report.

7. There's a great Les Paul exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I would highly recommend it to all fans who haven't been there yet.
