Swiftboating begins: Producer of Willie Horton ad to take on Obama
" On a website he calls ExposeObama.com, Floyd G. Brown, the producer of the Willie Horton ad that helped defeat Michael S. Dukakis in 1988, is preparing an encore.

Brown is raising money for a series of ads that he says will show Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to be out of touch on an issue of fundamental concern to voters: violent crime. " oooh, the scary black man card

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/08/producer-of-infamous-will_n_105939.html

OK, so what is an effective strategy to fight this, and if you are one of those, play nice, ignore it, please don't respond to this thread, because, I have been through 8 presidential elections, and I can tell you being nice does not get you elected, especially in this day of the right wing echo machine, or as I call it, network and cable news. So what is the most effective way to fight this, considering the ad will only have to play once.

5. Launch a pre-emptive strike calling out Brown.
Outline his character or lack thereof.

Nobody'd know 90% of this stuff if hand-wringers didn't help spread it.

9. no it is the other around
everybody does not read DU, but everyone is exposed to the corp media one way or another - the swiftboating WILL happen, and we need to have a strategy.

7. Simple--How in touch is McSame with violent crime? DC's bad--but not in Loudon Park
or the Capitol area.

As for his homes in Phoenix, gated communities all. I know, I live here.

8. Ridicule
Maybe string together a few ridiculous, racist clips from long ago like 'Amos and Andy' or 'Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarfs' with an intro like "The Republicans think these were the 'Good Old Days'.......(run painfully embarrassing clips).....We'd like to think we've moved forward. If you want to move forward, join the Democrats this year."

Racism is the past and we've lived through it. Now is the chance to confront it head on and make it an embarrassing relic of the past.

13. We need to respond with, "Not this time!...NOT THIS TIME!"
Let it go at that. Obama doesn't need to be fighting those ads. The people should do it.

I have taken that stand with RW emails. I send them back with a Snopes ruling and a warning that this time, I'm not going to be quiet.

They stop.

Gov. George Ryan (REPUBLICAN - Illinois) commuted (to "life" terms) the sentences of everyone on or waiting to be sent to Illinois' Death Row — a total of 167 convicts and pardoned four inmates (Aaron Paterson, Madison Hobley, Leroy Orange and Stanley Howard)

21. Use the ex-wife angle, should be a good hit with divorced women as well as
women with any suspicions in their marriage.

Sadly many people vote based on the "who you'd have a beer with."

22. I don't think McCain appeals to those beer people. He has a regal, honorable facade that rebuffs
people. Remember, he has a personality that is best kept "under wraps." Hopefully the media will shed some light on the true McCain soon.

divorced women.

24. The Obama campaign is probably going to be pretty clean.
It's going to come down to MoveOn and any others. Are there any liberal 527s? Because I would eat beans and cornbread for months and give my grocery money to fund them.

I know, I know. Obama is a much better person than I am.

26. When Our 527's Run an Ad, It runs Once (IF they Accept It). Theirs Get Repeated 1000 Times FOR FREE
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 12:19 AM by AndyTiedye
When their 527s run an ad, it immediately becomes "news",
so it can and will be repeated endlessly for free.

When we run an ad, it gets run once (unless the stations refuse it).
If there is any further reaction, it will be a rebuttal of the ad by the Repiglickin' pundits.

But what if it was really, really nasty? Would that be worth some "news," do you think? I think it would have to be.

32. Nope. They Won't Play It At all. Ask John Kerry
The media refused to air Kerry's response to the Swift Boaters,
while at the same time repeatedly running their ad for free
and talking it up in all the news shows.

Their refusal was NOT because his response was not "forceful" enough.
It was because the MSM was trying to do maximum damage to Kerry.

Kerry was doomed either way. The only kind of response he could have
mounted that anyone would have seen would be to spend ALL his money
on paid advertising — the only airtime Kerry could get.

Then he would have been out of money in October, leading to disaster in November.

The only advantage Obama has is that he has not accepted matching funds,
so theoretically he could attempt to counter the media blitz with paid ads,
probably spending all the money he has raised so far and then some, and
hope to raise enough more to have a voice in the closing days of the campaign.
We are talking billions here. TV ads are around a million dollars a minute,
and the Repiglickins get hours and hours of free airtime which we will have to
try to counter with paid ads.

25. What part of "element of surprise" do you think they don't understand?
They don't have it--we've been through this before. And the fundamental issues of concern of voters today is Iraq, the economy, and powerlessness. Which Obama has long since figured out.

34. I love your idealism,
but after four decades of elections, I have a lower opinion of the American voter than you do. This stuff gets worse every election and it works better each time. For every Obama ad that we pay for, the media will run a hundred for mccain for free. They will call it news and reporting, but they will sandbag Obama every chance they get.

When Khadafi took over Libya, the first thing he did is take over the television and radio, killing any reporters who didn't go along. The neocons own all the networks and don't have to kill anyone. Our media "journalists" sell out for a buck every time. I love optimism, but this is going to be a really nasty six months, and there are going to be a lot of disillusioned idealists out there.
