Retired Supreme Court Justice (O'Connor) Unveils Video Game

Free online 'Our Courts' game is designed to teach kids about the judicial system.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - America's first female Supreme Court justice unveiled a videogame project last week to teach children how courts work, saying she wanted to counter partisan criticism that judges are "godless" activists.

Sandra Day O'Connor, 78, who served as U.S. Supreme Court justice from 1981 until her retirement in 2006, said she never imagined she would be asked to address a conference about digital gaming.

She said she got involved with developing the project called http://www.ourcourts.org/">"Our Courts" out of concern over public ignorance about the judiciary and partisan attacks on what should be an independent institution.

"In recent years I've become increasingly concerned about vitriolic attacks by some members of Congress, some members of state legislatures and various private interest groups ... on judges," O'Connor told the Games For Change conference on using gaming technology for social improvement and education.

4. she's fucking playing video games?? i thought she ditched her job
to go and hand hold with her husband
(In November 2007, CNN reported that her family's situation has been made more difficult as, due to memory loss, her husband has formed new personal attachments in the institution where he now lives while not fully recalling his life-long family connections.<6> On Sunday, November 18, 2007, New York Times reported in an article titled Seized by Alzheimer’s, Then Love,<7> that she is relieved to see her husband of 55 years so content.)

5. My first reaction, too, orleans. WTF?? She quit, and thus gave us
another RW lifelong bastard on the Supreme Court, so she could goof around with video games? GRRRRRRRRR. Now, I am generally the last person to bash anyone for quitting a position to tend to family, but even at the time I thought: "WAIT -- this family is richer than 99% of us, and if our husbands got Alzheimer's, we'd be forced to keep working AND take care of the hubbies somehow. And Justice O'Connor can't do this for the good of the nation??? Even with her financial resources, which are considerable? Can't she go to work every day, and then visit hubby (WHO DOESN'T REMEMBER WHO SHE IS ANYHOW) after work?"

I just never understood it. Obviously, the reason she gave for resigning was not the real one. And the country will suffer for 30 years because of that.

6. Does anyone think a better understanding of civics is a good idea?
Should there be a law against kids visiting the site? Just askin'.

Or is "Our Courts" supported only by right wing propagandists?
