AFRICA INSIGHT: Obama’s victory in Democratic Party poll has continent in a spin

Barack Obama’s nomination as the presidential candidate of a major political party in the US has caused a great deal of excitement in Africa. Nation correspondents ARGAW ASHINE in Ethiopia, ANGELO IZAMA in Uganda, CHRISTOPHER KIDANKA in Tanzania, and TONY ELUEMUNOR sample the reactions in a few countries. Africans clearly seem ecstatic and the American with Kenyan roots has a huge fan club

International Reaction to Obama's Campaign Success Positive

...For now, many also say it is fair to question whether Obama might just be another false start to racial equality in America. "It might," wrote one British columnist, "But for the time being, Barack Obama is changing the world." Changing the world, and possibly America's place in it.

Foreign Reaction to Obama’s Claim Is Favorable

As Josef Joffe, the publisher and editor of the prestigious German weekly Die Zeit, wrote in a Web posting: “The spirit of the times is for Obama — even if less so in Asia, Africa and Latin America than in western Europe. But an optical illusion may be influencing our mood — notably the comforting picture that it is not America but George W. Bush that is the problem. Out goes the ‘cowboy,’ in comes Change and Hope, and we can love America again.”

1. I have French television in my Dish Network subscriber's package
Their news broadcasts from France often lead off with stories about Obama. He's being very heavily covered in the news. It seems that every political viewpoint, from left to right is looking forward to Obama in the White House.

2. I love hearing how other countries are reacting to Obama
I had dinner with my British neighbors last night and they are so frustrated that they can't vote in this election. :D
