I am guessing she asked him not to be there because this is a very personal moment for her. I believe Sen. Obama then is simply respecting her wish to handle this in her own way. We probably won't know the whole story, but I believe he is simply showing her the respect she is due.
And while many nominee would try to make it about them, Obama is willing to step back and let Hillary handle it.
