A Nutjob Judge Gets Canned in Alabama

How bad does a state judge in Alabama have to be in order to get ousted by the state's Court of the Judiciary?

We now have an answer, thanks to Stuart DuBose, who was a circuit judge serving Clarke, Choctaw, and Washington counties in southwest Alabama.

DuBose was removed from office on a range of judicial misconduct charges that began before he took the bench. Witnesses said DuBose had a history of abusing painkillers and other prescription drugs. And he is in the Baldwin County jail on a federal charge of possessing as many as 30 guns in violation of a restraining order. The judge was arrested after firing a machine gun at a surveying crew near his home in Jackson, Alabama. No one was injured in the incident.

Sounds like the kind of temperament you want in a judge, doesn't it?

1. Good for that judge! It's about time high-profile figures stood up against
the outrages consistently committed by these public works crew.

I suppose those surveyors will use the "We were just doing our jobs" excuse!

2. Hmmm, guess His Honor was slightly over-medicted that day...
Or perhaps his robe was too tight in the wrong place. He seems a little testy to me.;-)

7. A number of reasons...

1. He may have been firing in the air. Which is goddamn stupid unless you are using blanks, as bullets fired randomly into the air can kill bystanders up to two miles away.

2. Handling a weapon on full auto is a learned skill. If someone like me who has no training whatsoever in the handling of full auto went down to a range picked up an MP5 subgun set to rock and roll and dumped on a target, I doubt I'd score much in the way of hits.

3. The weapon in question may not have been a "machine gun." It could have been a semi auto version of a military weapon. News media is notorious for sensationalist screw ups like this when it comes to news involving firearms. These are the same geniuses who refer to the SKS as an "assault rifle."

9. Oh,Yeah---Because The Exact Description of The Firearm......

...is clearly the most important aspect of this sorry incident, which needs to be considered in excruciating detail.

Typical, constantly used, tiresome, bash-the-media gun nut deflection tactic. Stand by for the usual Gun Dungeon pile-on, complete with masturbatory-quality firearm photos....

12. OK, O Great One...
why don't you take a stab at answering the member's question "How do you miss everybody with a machine gun??" instead of bashing the member who gave it a shot?

8. This guy is oh so screwed..
the sentences for committing crimes with NFA legal weapons are huge. If they were illegal worse. The charges are federal and mandatory.

When you fire a rifle it pulls up and to the right. Even an m16 generated recoil. So at full auto the recoil will pull you off target quickly. Assuming he was aiming to kill them. The Army adopted a m16 that limited the automatic fire to three round bursts for this reason. Spray and pray is ineffective.

Shotguns are more dangerous in the hands of an untrained person than a select fire rifle.

No clue (posture, etc)
