Rock's greatest story has remained untold—until now
http://www.the27s.com/

<snip>

If you’re reading this you probably know that Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain’s lives were cut short at age 27, but the same fate happened to thirty other musicians. Sure, they weren’t all equally famous, but every one of them pushed rock in new directions, leaving lasting legacies that continue to inspire fans and musicians. Here’s a partial list to consider: Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones, Delta bluesman Robert Johnson, D. Boon of the Minutemen. Mia Zapata of The Gits, crooner Jesse Belvin, Badfinger’s Pete Ham, Chris Bell of Big Star, Gary Thain of Uriah Heep, Alan Wilson of Canned Heat, Freaky Tah of Lost Boyz, Pete de Freitas of Echo & The Bunnymen, Kristin Pfaff of Hole, and Jeremy Ward of The Mars Volta.

1. GD Primaries?
Fascinating story about age 27; thanks for it; but why here?

(And how old was Mama Cass? I'm too lazy to google.)

9. I wasn't too lazy to google; Mama Cass was 32 when she died.
In regard to the death at age 27 thing, astrologically, there's a very simple reason for it. Age 27 is generally the year of most people's "Saturn return" -- that is, it is the year in which the planet Saturn reaches the same zodiacal position it was in at the time of your birth. (this can actually take between 26 to 28 years or so, but for most people it's usually around 27 years)

Saturn is the planet of time (mortality), limitations, and karma. If your life is spinning out of control, Saturn is the archetypal energy that slams on the brakes. Saturn is the grumpy old man who comes charging out of his door with a shotgun and yells, "get off my lawn!"

Saturn is the tester. If you haven't gotten your shit together by the time you're 27 years old, it's Saturn that comes along and destroys your illusions. For some people, it's fatal.

3. Robert Johnson, huh? I think I just solved this mystery....
It's a well known legend that Robert Johnson sold his soul to Satan.

Satan's number is 666, but Satan comes up from Hell, so if you turn the numbers towards Hell it becomes 999.

9+9+9 = 27

So does that mean all of the musicians above also sold their souls to the Devil? :evilgrin:

6. Not Robert Johnson but his cousin
Tommy Johnson. And it wasn't Satan. It was the Black Man of the Crossroads, a fragment of an African Deity.

13. The entire story of Badfinger is extremely tragic.
By 27, a lot of artists have burned out and been screwed over by capitalist enterprise.
