France+Hamsters=DRAMA!

http://www.aol.co.nz/news/story/European-Union-warns-France-to-protect-its-threatened-hamster-population-or-face-legal-action/555551/index.html

France must do more to protect its wild hamsters or face legal action that could lead to millions of euros (dollars) in fines, the EU executive warned Thursday.

The great hamster of Alsace which lives in parts of eastern France is one of Europe's most threatened mammals, the European Commission said.

Failure by France to protect the rodent could lead to legal action at the European Union's high court, the Commission said in a formal warning. France now has two months to reply.

"When a European mammal like the great hamster approaches extinction, nature is sending a message," EU Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas said. "France must heed this warning and implement our nature protection legislation in full as soon as possible."

Save the hamsters.

4. I'm not a big hamster fan, but...
if they're dying out that usually tells you something is seriously wrong with the local ecosystem. Unfortunately econology isn't the #1 priority with the French. They have more in common with the US than most people realize.
