A 78 year old man (on the news)
was struck by a car. The car kept going. Other cars kept going. Pedestrians kept walking - no one helped the old man.
I'm starting to hate the human race.

11. Well, I did link too my thread, but...
There was only one minute between the impact and the arrival of the cops. People are not ignoring the man, but watching intently, and one man tells someone in a car something - possible to call the police. I think they were afraid to touch him for fear of further injury.

I think people are making ugly assumptions about the passersby that may be completely untrue.

13. Looks like it.
I doubt he would have gotten there that fast after being called. Just saying that I think people are judging these people way too harshly and way too hastily.

Also - PEOPLE, PLEASE USE CROSSWALKS!

16. It is much easier for victims to receive help considering the use of cell phones.
I bet if there is an excuse to use their cell phone they will so they can remark to their friends they called 911. That's the good part.

On the bad side. Just like the gawkers that drive by accidents and take their time they will take pictures to show their friends and family.

14. i didnt think as horrid as people are saying. i think many immediately went to cell phone
to call and put thru. did not take long at all before cop came. i would have liked to see people jump out there and protect, ... but i dont think people were ignoring. he looked dead.... maybe that had a thing. would have liked to see more action around the man, but i understand no one missing with him.

15. Exactly - they look like they want to help but are afraid to touch him.
Before ascribing the worst to others, examine thine own cynicism!

17. if you did not see the man go flying, then there would be a lot of things
as you are walking by to take in. as i say, hubby and i both watched, on film you see the progression to the event and then sit waiting for action... but when just driving or walking, focused on other stuff, ... this is something that might not register. i agree.

10. hating the human race
is not the correct response. Disappointment, of course. Confusion, perhaps. Compassion never the less.

but i'm not surprised. It's not like we have been in the environment of magnanimous behavior in which to set our moral compass given the last 8 bloody years.

you have to be the change you want to see in the world, even if it means in this instance, to imagine what you would want to do in a situation like this. And follow through in your mind to a beneficial end.

you have to start somewhere. There it is.

20. What gets me is the van that stops just after he's been hit.
They park for a moment and you think they're going to help and then they just take off!
