Psst, hey, Keith...
Edited on Wed May-28-08 03:16 PM by Sundoggy
...hey, love ya man. You know I've got your back. All those times when no one else would say what needed to be said, you looked right in the camera and gave it both barrels. We love you. You're our Walter Cronkite.

But dude, you seriously need to sample the decaf.

Speaking strictly for myself, tone is important to me. I prefer my over-the-top, blustering, spittle-flying commentary to come from the right. I'm not comfortable with all that fourth-wall-breaking emotion you seem to exude lately.

Yes, it's getting you ratings. But stop and think a minute: Who are you yelling to? Not AT, we know who you're yelling AT. But who are you talking to? Have you forgotten that, as a rule, progressives much prefer reasoned debate to shouting matches?

I'm still a fan, dude, I'll always be. But I'm really uncomfortable about how little emotional distinction there is between you and, say, O'Reilly any more.

And when you see Randi, tell her hi for me.

1. I believe you're comparing apples and oranges.

If Keith acted like that all the time, I'd agree. But he gets mad when he has something to get mad about. With O'Reilly and Limbaugh, it's their schtick 24-7--they don't exist without it.

2. If you are not as angry as Keith is showing, then you are not paying sufficient attention!!!
As a progressive, I am fed up so full that I can't stand it any more, and am starting to rant and yell myself....it is all too much...and is NOT a problem of too much caffeine! It is too much Bush, too much Cheney, too many lies, too much bullshit. So, Keith, if you read this, keep on truckin'!

8. I draw a sharp distinction...
...between what I feel and how I express it, and how I like to see people I admire approach the subject in front of millions of viewers.

5. agreed
Calm rational discussion is a better way to engage in discourse. Going apopleptic just makes you look unhinged.

Reminds me of those student groups that protest conservative speakers and freak out like an opposing view point is going to kill you. Just let everyone speak and we can debate the issues. It is no victory to stifle speech.

13. I think he voices the frustration and outrage that we all feel.
And if all people see are theatrics, well, then I guess they just aren't paying attention -- as the old cliche goes.

I see KO's Special Comments at times as my own catharsis, as well as validation that I am not alone in my sentiments.

Keith need not change a thing. If you want something calmer in a time when sometimes "spittle-flying commentary" is exactly what's needed, then may I suggest Paul Harvey?

I ONLY object when it becomes predictable. He's doing it too much. It's losing its impact.

15. There's been a lot to be pissed at lately.
And if it were staged, if it were that predictable, it would lose its impact. It isn't, so it hasn't.

If he gets pidgeonholed as just another loud voice on TV, poof goes his credibility. We NEED a credible Keith Olbermann.
