Olbermann breaks HUGE McCain Lobbying Story
by Soft Bulletin
Tue May 27, 2008 at 08:42:33 PM PDT

Keith Olbermann has broken a story on McCain's National Campaign Co-Chair and economic advisor, Phil Gramm. Turns out Gramm was a Registered Lobbyist for the Swiss Bank UBS, which is tens of billions deep in the subprime crisis.

So while Gramm was advising McCain to let people lose their homes rather than get more favorable terms on their loans, he was active as a lobbyist for UBS, which had a LOT to gain.

While UBS de-registered Gramm as a lobbyist on April 18th, this was about a month after McCain rolled out his plan regarding the supprime mortgage crisis, as Josh points out at TPM. And Gramm still serves as UBS vice Chairman.

UBS tells ex-private banking team members to avoid US - report
05.28.08, 2:47 AM ET

UBS has told members of its former private banking team responsible for rich US clients not to travel to America, the Financial Times reported.

The Swiss bank has also made lawyers available to the more than 50 bankers involved, many of whom have left UBS since it decided last November to wind down its cross-border private banking business for US customers.

3. Wow, more McCain hypocrisy on lobbyists
what a surprise. I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!

and, pretty soon, I'll be so shocked over these many scandals by McCain, I'll have been shocked with enough power to light Manhattan.

4. I remember McCain during a debate exchange with Ron Paul--
Ron Paul was asking him a direct economic question, and McCain kept rambling and saying "Phil Gramm...Phil Gramm...Warren Rudman...Phil Gramm..." McCain would be like Bush, only worse: Just as stupid on the economy, but THINKS he knows all about military strategy. Plus, Ron Paul is older than McCain, but made McCain sound like a dementia patient. Scary.

9. That was a total hitjob on McCain by KO last night
It was almost painful to watch. He linked McCain's campaign in a way that makes it look like they actively campaigned for and enabled the mortgage crisis.

14. Did you forget the sarcasm icon?

Keith is doing monumental work - and McCain's supporters & cohorts most certainly DID enable the mortgage crisis by allowing those hideous types of loans in the first place.

20. Which part of the piece was not true, or even shaded the truth?
Can the unvarnished TRUTH be a "hitjob?"

The people RUNNING McCain's campaign - the people he stooges for - DID enable the mortgage crisis.

WTF is the laughing about?

11. Doesn't seem that most of the msm cares about this.
They care more about gaffes than real issues (unless of course it's a mccain gaffe about him not knowing the difference between Shitte and Sunni in the current war.)

12. McSame's campaign is Keating 5 writ large.
He should have been nailed as a corrupt politician back when that scandal broke...instead, the media covered for him. Given the economic problems that the mortgage crisis is playing on the lives of many Americans, I don't know how he can expect a pass on this. The Republican Party is Organized Crime...they been screwing this country for 50 years,; when will the American people figure this out?

24. Gramm...Sleazy As The Day Is Long...
Yesterday on C-SPIN, they had a former Clinton official, David Greenberger on discussing Gramm's role in pushing through the Enron loophole and how that's led to all the speculation in the energy field...first with electric rates in California and then onto today's oil mess. This crook dropped his own Presidential campaign when the sleeze was even too much for his corrupt coven...but he sure can raise the coin for Gramps...and that's what matters.

And to think at one time Gramm was a Democrat.
