Pottersville: "The Liberal Egg And Tomato Diet"

The Liberal Egg and Tomato Diet

Start stocking up.

It goes without saying that on the last week of the Bush administration, you will not be able to beg, borrow, steal or even buy on the black market a single egg or tomato in the greater Washington, DC area.

It will be an elliptical exit for George W. Bush, a man who did for America’s reputation and standing what Mrs. O’Leary’s cow did for Chicago bovines. On January 20th, 2009, the Secret Service will advise Bush as they did exactly eight years before to stay in his bulletproof limousine instead of taking the traditional walk down Pennsylvania Ave.

Except there will be more angry people than in 2001, more angry Americans infinitely angrier over matters even more serious and egregious than a stolen election or two. There will be many liberals in attendance, to be sure. Members of Code Pink and Gold Star Mothers, perhaps PETA and Greenpeace and people who’ve lost or are about to lose their houses and can no longer afford to get to work because of the price of gas. But there will also be angry Republicans and libertarians, people who will justifiably be enraged that their party was betrayed.

They will line Pennsylvania Avenue waiting for that limousine, perhaps even thinking of Romania and Nicolae Ceausescu, Mussolini at that Italian gas station and wondering what might have been if they’d only had the guts to overrun the Secret Service’s presidential detail. But they’ll settle for rotten tomatoes and eggs and placards stating the obvious.

And, incredible as it may sound, when Bush leaves and is succeeded by even Obama, things will only get worse, Apres moi, le aftershock, he can say.

The credit card bills for Vietnam didn’t start coming in until the mid-70’s when Gerald Ford was in. And the evils of Alan Greenspan and George W. Bush, which were put in motion at the start of this administration, is only becoming fully felt on Main Street USA as 1 in 33 homeowners may be facing foreclosure, including a member of Congress.

With a ship of state as large as ours, it takes a while for the ship to turn starboard before it finally hits the iceberg.

- snip -

Yet the truth will be screamingly obvious: He will leave behind an illegal war that will be up to his successor to finish, apologize and pay for. The dollar will be weaker because he chose to weaken it in order to make the yuan stronger. The environment will be filthier, petroleum cartels will be more bloated than ever. And so will Bush and Cheney.

Obviously, none of this was due to incompetence, serendipity or coincidence. And we will let these war criminals and war profiteers make their getaway verrrrry slooooooowly.

3. Eggs may not be available in Jan 09, but they are available now and will be
good and ripe by January. Keep in a warm garage all summer.
