Sniper who shot Quran sent away
A U.S. sniper was removed from Iraq after he used a copy of the Quran for target practice, the military said Sunday, a day after a U.S. commander apologized to Sunni tribal leaders in a formal ceremony.

GI pulled after Quran desecration

BAGHDAD -- An American sniper was removed from Iraq after he used a copy of the Quran for target practice, the military said Sunday, a day after a U.S. commander held a formal ceremony apologizing to Sunni tribal leaders. The elaborate ceremony -- in which one U.S. officer kissed a new copy of Islam's holy book before giving it to the tribal leaders -- reflected the military's eagerness to stave off anger among Sunni Arabs it has been cultivating as allies.

7. That's probably the best thing that's happening to him
He sounds like a good candidate for a field-level Article 15. They'll lighten his wallet of a few buck and his shoulder of a stripe or two.

And with that, he should consider himself lucky.

2. Wait a damn minute- what are our paid representatives doing smooching holy books?
It's one thing to send the stupid asshat who shot one away, on account of his being a stupid asshat (though if shooting a koran is good for a free ticket out of Iraq, they're gonna run out of either soldiers or books of superstition soon) but that's just not acceptable.

5. Maybe a bit more fatal if the locals catch you first.
Probably not by much, though.
