11. Burger King

While at least SOME fast food companies are trying to help solve America's obesity crisis, Burger King is doing nothing. In fact, they are accelerating the process. The latest menu entrees include a quadruple bacon cheeseburger, something called "Chicken Fries", and a 900 calorie breakfast sandwich. At least they'll be keeping America's cardiologists busy for quite a while.

10. Diebold

A company based out of Ohio, whose CEO, a right-wing fundamentalist Christian, promised in 2004 that they would be "committed to bringing Ohio's electoral votes to the President", and they did exactly that. Thanks to them and their faulty voting machines (which Purdue professors claim are easier to rig than most Vegas slot machines), we are now stuck with that maniacal dictator until January 20th, 2009.

9. Focus On The Family

This dangerous lobbying group headed by the Rev. James Dobson, tries to pass itself off as a religious organization by turning America's megachurches into political indoctrination centers (which in turn, has spawned religious lunacy not seen since the 14th Century). Its primary goal is to turn America into a theocratic police state, but they so far have gone about achieving their impossible goal in the same way that Wiley Coyote tries to catch the Road Runner.

8. Merck

Do you have erection problems or an incurable STD like genital herpes? Do you watch their nauseating ads and think that you feel inadequate? This is one of the big pharmaceutical companies who spends millions of dollars on advertising and lobbying while jacking up the cost of America's medications so high that the average person needs to take out a trust fund to be able to afford them.

7. Dell Computer

When the technical support staff of Dell Computer suddenly disappeared without a trace, Michael Dell was at Congress' feet begging them to support something called outsourcing. It means that he can get away with firing all of his staff, sending those jobs to India where he can pay his employees peanuts, and in return, he makes another couple billion dollars. Asswipe.

6. Wal-Mart

We all know about Wal-Mart's piss-poor working conditions, slave labor hours, and not giving their employees the insurance they need. But a little-known fact about Wal-Mart is not only do they make the equivalent of the GDP of a small country, they can make or break the GDPs of the small countries they choose to manufacture their goods.

5. Clear Channel

Not only does Clear Channel have practically a monopoly on America's concert venues, radio stations, and virtually every available square inch of advertising space, they also own the radio broadcasting rights to most of America's mind-numbing right-wing radio talk show hosts. Which includes Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Sean Hannity, among others. Which pretty much shows you which side of the fence they fall on.

4. The Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA)

During Bill Clinton's last two years in office, Metallica started a feud against Napster. That feud caught the attention of the RIAA, which lobbied Congress to get the Digital Millennium Copyright Act passed. Since then, the RIAA has taken to extremes getting one file-sharing after another, arresting college students who couldn't make the ridiculously high bails, and basically all but declaring war on its own customers.

3. Verizon Wireless

When the illegal wiretapping scandal turned from conspiracy theory into big time news last year, Verizon was one of the first to admit that they sold private data, including customers' phone calls and social security numbers to spy agencies like the NSA and the CIA for the purposes of surveill.... er, protecting American citizens (from what? We still are not clear about that).

2. Halliburton / KBR

In the last six years, the White House has now become a wholly owned subsidiary of Halliburton, Inc. Since taking office, Dick Cheney, Halliburton's former CEO has all but denied any claims that his VP status has given Halliburton practically a monopoly on all no-bid government contracts. Also since Cheney took office, the company has been embroidered in scandal after scandal, the latest is the crapshoot conditions at the Walter Reed hospital (where our troops are being sent after getting injured in combat) outside of Arlington, Virginia. Meanwhile, subsidiary KBR has been contracted by the government to build Hitler-style concentration camps for unknown purposes. YET.

1. Exxon/Mobil

Polluting the enviroment (while simultaneously bribing America's top scientists to suppress that information), jacking up the cost of oil and gas to unheard of prices, all while their big, fat former CEO got a nice big, fat retirement package (to the tune of $400 million) is just another year for the most corrupt company in America. While Bush has been in office, the price of gas has tripled, thanks to them. Global warming has escalated to the point where it's now a major crisis, and they are denying its mere existance.

The whole industry is corrupt from top to bottom.

I have never heard of them. I could see including Microsoft on the list somewhere, but not in the top 10.

6. FedEx

They can't find their ass with both hands.

I just watched their truck pull away with a package that I really needed and when I checked the tracking status they claim that the address is incorrect, but they'll try again Tuesday. It's the same address for the same house, in the same place since 1894.

If you really need for a package to get someplace the day they claim it will, go UPS.

Sorry I'm sure that this isn't what you intended, I just needed a moment to whine.

8. DHL is much worse.

The company I work for used to use them as our primary shipping company, but they had deadlines of 4:00, and sometimes their drivers would come before we even had a chance to get the packages ready. UPS is the best of the big three.

9. Add Microsoft and Apple.

The latter after hearing Jobs whine about teachers' unions... their practices over the last few years I found a bit suspect, but what recently came out of Jobs' own mouth seals it for me.

He may have a point, but being a LEADER and all one would think he could DO something rather than bitch about it. That's what LEADERS are for.

Jobs can bugger off back to his playpen.

And I too, despite NOT being a leader by any measure, will try to offer at least one solution. That way at least my arrogance can be justified. Unlike theirs because I doubt they will actually be so bold and, forgive me, "think different".

10. It wasn't just Verizon *Wireless*

The hard wired (land line) side of Verizon was also quick to turn over privileged info to the feds without even as much as an argument. Makes me wonder what the tradeoff was.
