80 million potentially pissed off voters heading to the voting booth to "fix those gun grabbing dems" isn't something anyone hereabouts should be interested in seeing happen this fall. Its going to be hard enough as it is.

Lose any type of registration, waiting period or restriction on number purchased in a period of time, make License to Carry a firearm and shall issue national with the right to carry reciprocal in every state.

Enforce existing laws on firearms posession by felons.

Anti's, there is not enough enforcemsnt of this law now. Enacting new laws just makes no sense till all existing laws are being enforced.

3. The Gun Pushers need to be put out of business

Gun Pushers are causing the deaths of hundreds of innocent people by making guns available to anyone who wants them.

I want people in office who will outlaw people owning guns.

but attitudes like that kinda make me reconsider. "Go buy one". There are plenty of people who don't want guns, or couldn't handle them if they had them.(an 80yr old lady may be "afraid" with everyone owning guns, and you shouldn't tell her go go buy one too). That solves absolutely nothing. The government doesn't need to get more involved with our lives just as you don't need to tell people what to do. I don't see how everyone running around with guns in this country will make anything safer.

but I am well aware that others far mor educated in the matter have not shared this opinion. It is however, nebulous and very debateable. I, however, do believe in background checks (very good thing), registering serial numbers, and numbers restrictions on purchases.

8. Revision And Standarization Of Laws...

Several years ago I served on a jury in a case involving gun sales and I got quite an education on the many layers of laws regarding sales and ownership...and the many loopholes in those laws. For example, you can give a gun as a "gift" without going through anything more than notifying the state of it..or how a person can escape background checks by where and when they purchase. These loopholes are well known and can and do result in tragic results.

Some guns are banned simply because they are made in another country, but if that country set up a factory in the US they would be fine and dandy.

14. Stop the illegal gun trade. Aggressively.

Gun thefts should be reported. If a "stolen" gun shows up after a crime, and it's "theft" wasn't reported, the owner should be fined and his or hers right to buy more guns should be revoked. Repeat offenders should be jailed.

To drive a car, you must have a license.
Doesn't matter whether you own a car or not.
In fact, your license doesn't even say if you own a car.

Similarly, why not license gun users?
Just as in a drivers' license test, they'd have to demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge about the safe use.

Despite being a very liberal socialist with anarchist leanings, I support the Second Amendment because it was included for a reason. So that we could overthrow the government, if necessary. Not that we could easily do that anymore, even with arms, because of the massive discrepancy between a mass of people armed with rifles (and even machine guns) versus an army with highly technological toys, tanks, and nukes.

22. The problem with the phrasing of the poll question

is that it assumes that the folks answering the question have an accurate, working knowledge of the topic. (Many national polls suffer from the same problem.) While DU members may be generally more educated on various topics than the general public, this assumption is still an unsafe one for the general DU membership.

That said, I voted for less since there exist some rather silly stuff on the books as well as serious stuff that just does not work. Higher enforcement of the current laws more than covers the common desires of the general public.
