When did the concept of 'diplomacy' become a bad thing? I'm
52 years old, and I remember diplomacy being good. Now, it's a curse word, kind of like 'liberal'?

Can anyone tell me when this changed, or better yet, when it might change back?

9. I keep noticing how Negroponte testifies at SFRC hearings
(I'm a Biden junkie) and think, where the heck is she? shoe-shopping?

And then Biden brought up how she and Gates talk about talking to Iran. MSNBC added tapes from Colin Powell...

7. Maybe we should discuss "HOW" it became a bad thing. These assholes have carefully
corrupted both the media and the language and if the Left is ever going to be able to stanch the cancer they've spread, we need to examine how they succeeded at perverting both.

16. Bush has said "in Texas, we don't do nuance"
Chest-thumping, strutting, ass-parading, smirking, and photo-op caveman posturing are Bush's style. Remember in 2004 how Kerry's nuanced approach to the situation in Iraq, relying on regional diplomacy was criticized by right wing nuts as being an idea of the cultural elite, the latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading, body-piercing, Hollywood-loving crowd? There's a real big cultural divide in this country and the word "diplomacy" or "diplomat" is almost as unmentionable a word to the right wing nuts as communist used to be.

11. I loved it when Biden said repeatedly today that talking doesn't mean removing "NO" from your vocab.
And Chris Matthews did a great job taking on that nutty radio show host who had no clue the difference between holding a meeting vs. appeasement. That Matthew tape needs to be sent to anyone who falls for right wing radio crap.

12. No kidding. I'm 55 and remember diplomacy, blunt at times, erratic at times,
as a standard we strove to meet and maintain. Was it always effective? Hardly.

Yet, there was that general sense that diplomacy, as you say, was a good thing - and worth the effort.

Bushco has devalued diplomacy to the detriment of us all, here and abroad.

Hyper-testosterone morons like the gagootz that Tweety eviscerated tonight were actually allowed to excite electrons in the radio spectrum. Among other things.

28. Ironically enough. We not only talk to our enemies. We allow them to politically organize here.
Before WWII Teh American Nazi Party was very popular. Some time after WWII this party has reemerged as the American Neo Nazi Party. In Germany the Nazi Party and all of it's symbols are illegal. But not here in America. Just think. One day we will probably have an American Neo Al Qaida Party.
