Wanna know how ignorant piglicon AZ lawmakers are?
They are trying to put an initiative on the ballot banning same sex marriage. They have already made it illegal, but they now want us to pay for putting this initiative on the ballot. Stupid fucking bastards! God I hate these people. Why are they so interested in this bullshit when they are people losing homes, hungry, and can't afford to buy gas to get to work? What the fuck is wrong with these people? Are they nuts?

1. Because it brings their base to the polls.
Plain and simple, that is the reason. They don't give a rat's ass about the measure itself, it's only to ensure that the rabid religious nuts come by the busload to show them gays how it is.

2. It's a distraction
They want people in bars and in workplaces arguing same-sex marriage instead of trying to figure out why they're having such a tough time economically.

4. soon their base won't be able to afford to drive to the polls - and they'll
remain ignorant of why and who put them in that position.

5. Of course, it's not just Arizona
Every Repuke lawmaker would do this to help the National Arm of the Reich Wing party if they had such power in other states.

8. In addition to this bill, we have the Republican controlled legislature in AZ to thank for
the following:

1. Bill to prohibit AZ public schools from "any teaching considered counter to democracy or Western civilization" and students in AZ universities and community colleges from forming groups based in whole or in part on the race of the members (such as the Black Business Students Assc. (BBSA), Black Business Students, the Hispanic Business Students Association (HBSA), or the American Indian Science & Eng Society (AISES)).

2. Bill to block revised automobile emission rules for new cars adopted by Democratic governor's administration.

3. Bill to repeal state property tax known as the education equalization tax (vetoed by Democratic governor). Tax was "waived" for three years by Republican led legislature during boom period when state had surplus. Now that state has $1 billion shortfall, Republicans want to make three year "waiver" permanent; and have labeled veto as a tax increase. Sound familiar?

4. Bill to divert funds from voter approved initiatives like state funded health care for the poor (which involved greater funding for health care for anyone living under federal poverty line), other health programs (initiative approved higher taxes on tobacco products with tax revenue being directed to health programs), and early childhood education. Now that AZ is in budget shortfall, AZ Republican legislators want to provide massive tax cut to businesses (see #3 above) but take funds away from voter approved iniatives to fund other government programs (which means significant cuts in voter approved programs).

5. Bill to allow concealed guns on college campuses (original bill proposed any school, but that received such a negative response even the Republicans decided to put that one on the shelf), and bars and restaurants (so long as gun carrying patron didn't drink alcohol.

6. Bill to require "teachers who instruct on the theory of evolution concerning the origins of human beings and other living organisms to present evidence that supports and evidence that does not support the theory of evolution."

7. Blocked a proposal to extend health care benefits to domestic partners (not just gay couples, but all domestic partners).

There are lots of other lame examples, but you get the drift. As long as the AZ legislature continues to be dominated by ideological social conservatives like Russell Pearce, we'll continue to get this crap. Thank God for a Democratic Governor.

9. Our legislature has been an embarrassment ever since, well,
I can't remember when it wasn't, and I grew up here.

11. I don't recall the number of just plain dumb proposals
when Art Hamilton, Alfredo Gutierrez, and Burton Barr were managing the Legislature, but I was younger then and not paying as much attention as I do now.
