Racist e-mails of the Secret Service
http://www.slate.com/id/2191202/entry/0

A discrimination lawsuit filed by African-American employees against the Secret Service has dragged on for more than eight years, prompting the plaintiffs to accuse the government's lawyers of dragging their feet. Last week, a batch of racist internal e-mails written to or by "at least 20" high-ranking agency supervisors was released by the government weeks after a court-imposed deadline. Samples of the e-mails (see below and the following four pages) demonstrate why the agency might have been reluctant to turn them over.

In 2003, Daniel Paulson, a Secret Service assistant director in the Office of Government Liaison and Public Affairs, sent a "Harlem Spelling Bee" (see below) to several recipients, including a deputy assistant director who has since retired. The e-mail contained mock "vocabulary words" from an imaginary fifth-grade "Ebonics homework assignment." Example: "Hotel—I gave my girlfriend crabs, and the hotel everybody." Another 2003 e-mail joked about killing the Rev. Jesse Jackson (Page 2); a third made joking reference to lynchings and large male genitalia (Page 3); and a fourth, this one from 2005, related a joke about robot golf caddies that, when painted black, "didn't show up for work … filed for welfare, and … robbed the pro shop" (Page 4). This last was sent to the head of the Cleveland field office.

Meanwhile, in an exchange between the "Special Agent in Charge of the Dignitary Protective Division and a former GS-14 Special Agent," the two Secret Servicemen complained that "reverse racism and political correctness are destroying every aspect of American life" (Page 5).

Plenty of images, too. :puke:

Okay, now ask yourself this:

What if one of these fuckwits endsd up "protecting" Sen. Obama? :scared: :scared: :scared:

2. Get the Facts Straight
These are the guys who will take a bullet for the President and other dignitaries, who put their lives on the line for us and our country. I think we need to give some of these men and women the benefit of the doubt here. Just because they forward stupid jokes does not mean they are racist or bad people. These are not greedy business executives or corrupt politicians - they are public servants who sacrifice a lot for probably very little, and it saddens me to see how quickly people will jump on silly mistakes. How many of you have forwarded stupid jokes about others? Those who live in glass houses...

6. What facts need straightening?
Your post clarifies nothing, except for your opinion.

7. so you condone this behavior?
Edited on Tue May-13-08 04:13 PM by Blue_Tires
every once in awhile there is a news story about a police department in some city/county doing the same thing -- almost always this certain department has come under fire in the way they treat minority "suspects"...when called on their racist e-mails/commments/jokes, and how it affect the way they treat certain people in real life, they trot out the same tired lines that read much like yours...

8. The conclusions you all draw are opinions
The fact that we do not know from this article is - are all of the people in the secret service who forward e-mails racist, or do they just get caught up in forwarding dumb e-mails like so many other people in work places? I'm sure if someone investigated the e-mails of the African American agents at the Secret Service, you'd probably see forwarded e-mails about women or gay people or Jewish people, and that would not necessarily mean they hate those groups. I'm sure many of the white agents have also forwarded dumb jokes about agents or white people. It's STUPID, but not necessarily a sign of any deep seeded hatred toward any particular group. Did the agents author the jokes or just forward them on? Makes a big difference, in my opinion.

And I have thick enough skin that a joke about me being a moron would make me laugh.
