I tell you what, several of my "friends" keep sending me stuff about
Obama being either a closet Muslim or an America hater.

It's white guys my age, you know, 50 or so.

What is it with these guys. They are such closeted racists that I can't stand it. Even though there is so much evidence to the contrary, people still think he is a Muslim and or will betray America. I honestly think they feel that if Obama is elected everyone will have to eat watermelon and fried chicken 24/7.

I am so embarrassed for white guys my age. They pretended for years to not be racists and now the first time they might actually have to prove they are not, they resort to repeating lies and dropping innuendos to mask their racism.

And these are the same folks that send me those crappy send this EMail on to ten of your friends and God will smile on you.

Bull Shit Bull Shit Bull Shit.......

1. Hit reply all and paste this into the return mail
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.

2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."

3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.

4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."

5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.

6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.

7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.

12. and... McCain can't tell Shiite from Shinola
He runs around repeatedly claiming that (Shiite) Iran is training (Sunni) Al Qaeda and sending them into Iraq. Sure, they would aid their mortal enemy.

And don't forget he says he wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years.

And he admits he doesn't know anything about economics.

I work in an office with lots of repubs and they are very afraid and hate McC. One of my managers asked me "What do you think of that terrorist, Obama?" I got up and walked out. Things were cool between us for a bit, but I think he knows better than to initiate political conversations with me again.

15. Willie Brown said much the same thing on TV the other day.
He's absolutely right too...there are plenty of Democrats who, while never ever publically admitting it, would withhold a vote for a woman or a black person. I've had lots of Democrat friends admit it to me privately. It's not that they will vote for McCain necessarily (but some actually might...more than a few voted for Chimp...being the idiots they are; what can I say?)

23. It is a sure way to get flamed on DU, but anyone who
thinks race won't be a huge, possibly decisive factor in an Obama vs McCain contest is kidding themselves. It will be THE issue on which many people decide. I personally know some seniors - lifelong Dems - who will not vote for a black man for President. That's just reality. I'm not saying Obama can't win, but with either of our candidates the potential downsides (especially given the endless cheerleading the corporate media whores will be doing for McCain) may just make the election close enough for the repukes to - once again - steal.

32. Somehow, we have to make race irrelevant!
We can do that by pounding on the issues, by showing McCain for what he is: An angry old man who is ignorant of much in world issues.

When people are engaged in discussing the genuine issues that affect their lives, then race will vanish from the scene...

33. I hope you're right, Peggy. But the racial
divide in this country is still huge in some places, and overcoming it is going to be very difficult. The area of Pennsylvania where my dad grew up went overwhelmingly went for Hillary in the primary, something like 75%. Knowing the mindset of the people there, I know racism had a lot to do with it.

I just hope the Dems can present a convincing case to the American public that change is imperative and that they need to put their prejudices aside and vote in their own best interest and the best interest of the country - in other words, don't let their fears get in the way of their common sense.

39. That isn't possible, Peggy. Not as long as there ARE races.
Failing to acknowledge that fact just leads to apathy...and defeat. "Oooo everybody hates McCain" I see that written here all over the place and it's bullshit. DU is FAR from a microcosm of America...hell, it's not even in tune with mainstream Democrats. You dismiss the far right while grossly overestimating the influence of the mostly left.
I run into Dems every day who privately admit (they would never say it out in public) they can't vote for a woman...or a black person. It's just a fact of life.

7. Racism
It comes in all weird shapes and sizes, and most people who are racists will tell you - and they believe it - that they are not.

A friend of mine, a Lt. Col. in the Marines, a Gulf War vet, a former Republican who is now a Democrat, who hates Fuckface with a fine, white-hot passion, told me that his wife recently told him that she could never vote for a black man.

His head is still spinning. So is mine. She's a lovely woman who would never, ever believe that she's a bigot. Ever. She's raising their kids to be open and loving and not discriminatory, but what kind of example is she setting, perhaps subliminally?

I fear for this election, for Obama, because of this precise hatred and fear and ignorance.

It seems pretty clear when they have to make up stupid things like calling him a terrorist or changing his (very obvious and public) religion.

I do not fear Obama's election (and I do think we'll win) because they will be unable to continue their closet prejudice and people who don't know any better (their children?) will be exposed to reality, an excellent role model, negating the ugly hatred. Hopefully for a very long time. :)

It's horrifying to think that we've not come very far at all in our tolerance of others, but this so-called "administration" has certainly done a fine job of demonizing anyone who's not Caucasian.

There isn't much you can say to those kinds of statements. My relatives are convinced that all black people are on welfare, have babies just to collect a bigger government check, and use their food stamps to buy steak and lobster. Nothing you could say or do could ever convince them otherwise.

They aren't worried about Obama, though, because they also firmly believe that the U.S. will never elect a black President.

52. Yes every "other" runs into that
It is unfortunate that there is so much racism and bigotry on all sides of the spectrum. When I was selling cars I had many hispanic customers tell me that they refused to work with a guero. Right to my face "Oh sorry you don't get to feed your family becuase I don't like white people".

And I argue with people all the time here on DU and formerly on the job (I work from home now), about their idea that the evil joos are responsible for all wars, and all problems, and even some who say that we brought the holocaust and all the persecutions onto ourselves.

Race will be a factor in this election. but I still think we're going to smoke McBoosh.

One of my co-workers often chimes in with "I hate my fucking spic brother-in-law." I remind him that we're in an office with a couple dozen people who hear "spic" the same way black folks hear "nigger." But he thinks it's okay to use "spic" to describe his brother-in-law because his bother-in-law is a lazy Mexican who refuses to get a job. See? We're the good kind of Mexicans, so why on earth should we be mad?!?!?!?
