Why can't McCain close the deal
It is time for the Democratic candidates to pull together and show we can be unified ... unlike the republics. McCain is certainly the republic party nominee. However, he is losing a large portion of the christian conservative base to Mike Huckabee and the isolationist base to Ron Paul. If McCain loses 27 percent of the republican base in North Carolina, how can he ever expect to win in November, especially considering the number of independents running away from the republic party on Iraq?

Look at and study these numbers: <http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#NC>

Every Democratic surrogate should be yelling about these numbers on TV for the next month!

1. Sometimes, it almost makes you think they've written off this election.
McCain is getting the sympathy vote -- and the consolation prize -- from all those who let Chickenlips run roughshod over him in South Carolina in 2000.

2. 45% Is His High Water Mark
Huggy Bear is enjoying a honeymoon. The corporate media has been obsessed with the Democrats (as have the GOOP operatives) and he's been able to prance around and get positive spin. But I suspect those days are soon to be over...he's got a bunch of gauntlets to run.

The first one is who he nominates as his Veep...who will he placate and who will he piss off? If he picks Hucklenutz, he pisses off the "fiscal" conservatives who think he's a "librul" or pick a Mittens and the fundies revolt...and each group is gonna want a piece of flesh for their support. And, of course, we can't forget about the Paulbots who showed last weekend they're very much alive and sure to be heard from at the GOOP convention...especially if Ron Paul isn't given a prime speaking slot. :bounce:

Then, Gramps has this problem:

100 Years In Iraq
No Energy Policy
Was For Abortion Before He Was Against It
Lobbyists
Savings & Loan Scandal (very relevant to where we are now)
Age
Health
Sanity

The corporate media can't paper over all this dude's flaws or faux pas. He's not just a weak candidate but fighting a tide of angry and energized voters...on all sides around him...he has no real base to draw from.
