kos gave Rush Limbaugh the idea for the failed "operation chaos"
right here, remember?

Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 01:31:01 PM PDT

In 1972, Republican voters in Michigan decided to make a little mischief, crossing over to vote in the open Democratic primary and voting for segregationist Democrat George Wallace, seriously embarrassing the state's Democrats. In fact, a third of the voters (PDF) in the Democratic primary were Republican crossover votes. In 1988, Republican voters again crossed over, helping Jesse Jackson win the Democratic primary, helping rack up big margins for Jackson in Republican precincts. (Michigan Republicans can clearly be counted on to practice the worst of racial politics.) In 1998, Republicans helped Jack Kevorkian's lawyer -- quack Geoffrey Feiger -- win his Democratic primary, thus guaranteeing their hold on the governor's mansion that year.

With a history of meddling in our primaries, why don't we try and return the favor. Next Tuesday, January 15th, Michigan will hold its primary. Michigan Democrats should vote for Mitt Romney, because if Mitt wins, Democrats win. How so?

For Michigan Democrats, the Democratic primary is meaningless since the DNC stripped the state of all its delegates (at least temporarily) for violating party rules. Hillary Clinton is alone on the ballot.

But on the GOP side, this primary will be fiercely contested. John McCain is currently enjoying the afterglow of media love since his New Hamsphire victory, while Iowa winner Mike Huckabee is poised to do well in South Carolina.

Meanwhile, poor Mitt Romney, who’s suffered back-to-back losses in the last week, desperately needs to win Michigan in order to keep his campaign afloat. Bottom line, if Romney loses Michigan, he's out. If he wins, he stays in.

And we want Romney in, because the more Republican candidates we have fighting it out, trashing each other with negative ads and spending tons of money, the better it is for us. We want Mitt to stay in the race, and to do that, we need him to win in Michigan.
. . .

Remember?

3. Oh bull
Rush needs no help to promote dirty tricks. His mind is wired to think only along the lines of promoting dirty tricks.

And to even think that Rush bothers to even read anything a dirty liberal would write is ludicrous.

4. I don't know if that gave him the idea or not.
But it does help to point out we did the same thing to. Here's what I wrote on another thread, I'll just copy it.

If ever there forms a line to hit that shitbag with a sack of oranges, I want to be at the front of that line.

However, what he's doing is unethical, but not illegal. And frankly, we did it too. We encouraged people to vote for Mitt Romney or Huckabee in open primaries to keep McCain or whoever was the front runner hemmoraging money.

Bottom line, these tactics are only going to amplify as the general draws near. We can complain this is unfair, or we can get to work on our own measures. We are at a disadvantage of sorts, because we not only claim to be ethical, we actually attempt to do so. Pubs just claim it. We have to use Judo more than Karate.

6. Agreed -- I've voted Republican in the past . . .
Some years ago, I switched my affiliation so I could vote against certain Republican candidates at the earliest possible moment. I believed those fools so dangerous it was imperative to do everything to stop them at the earliest possible moment. In recent years, however, I've come to believe registration as a Democrat more important, as shear numbers of adherents says more to the public than a vote against a scary fool.

So I'm not about to criticize Limbaugh's dittoheads for doing somewhat the same thing I did. Besides that, I question just how much of an impact they are having in elections which are drawing millions of new voters, including many Republicans who are switching affiliation because they believe more of McSame a disastrous course.

5. Every time I hear about this disaster called "Operation Chaos", I
Edited on Tue May-06-08 11:34 PM by rasputin1952
am reminded how the GOP consistently has to cheat in some fashion to come out ahead in an election.

Whether it is something as stupid ad "OC", or when it is something as serious as FL in 2000, there is always a nefarious aspect to how they deal w/things. "Swiftboating", actually stealing votes in electronic machines, lies and obfuscations...the GOP hasn't done anything on the up-and-up since Eisenhower ran.

Want to know why? They have nothing that is palatable to the US citizen, so they have to take anything that has even an iota of progress and drive it into the ground on a 24/7 binge of blood. What is truly sad, is that people fall for this crap all of the time, time after time.

Prime example...and we'll hear a lot of this again this round...abortion. We will hear how the GOP is so "pro-life", they will turn the USSC decision of Roe v Wade on it's ear...hell, they didn't even try when they had the WH, a ruling GOP congress and a compliant USSC. Even my Evangelical acquaintances have finally realized they've been played for fools for years.

Limbaugh once again has shown just how impotent he is...perhaps even his "dittoheads" will finally realize they have been played for fools, wouldn't that be icing on the cake...;)

7. You're absolutely right. If they can't rig 'em, they can't win 'em.

8. I'm personally disgusted by these tactics
Whether they're occurring on the Republican side or *gulp* ours. I think that such tactics indelibly corrupt the democratic process forcing us to remain unsure as to what the true will of the voters is. I'm frankly surprised that such shenanigans aren't illegal (or likewise encouraging it). Such tactics seem fraudulent and undemocratic and should be condemned by all parties and all candidates. If people genuinely want to cross over and vote for another party's candidate because they believe in them, that's fine with me but people should not be voting in another party's primary just to cause "chaos". I realize that the intent of the voter may not always be able to be determined by election officials but, at the very least, people encouraging such tactics should be condemned if not punishable by law.
