1. I buy a lot of cheap generics
that don't taste too bad at Aldi's and save quite a bit.

2. I do a lot at Dollar General,
tea bags, Mac & Cheese, brand name stuff. I don't buy it often but when you're craving Kraft Mac & Cheese, nothing else will do.

I get all my paper goods there and laundry detergent, dish soap and most of my 'beauty' products, shampoo, lotion etc.

3. Dollar Store has good prices on some items.

Small bag of white rice = $1

I usually buy baking supplies and stuff like canned vegetables and soups.

The large condensed soup sizes of Campbell's chicken noodle or tomato for a buck is a good price.

6. Just make sure you check the dates.
If you can't find a date, don't buy it. That's my motto anyway.

5. Yep, to all of it.
Been going to Aldi food store for years. There are several things I don't buy there: their mayo, pasta sauce, a few other things, but mainly it's o.k.
Hit the Dollar General for name brand cleaning stuff, shampoo, nail polish but I check the dates on the make-up.
Only go to local Shop Rite every other week for the big container of cat litter, bulk t/p and paper towels when they're on sale and brand name stuff when we play cards with our friends.

With the way things are today, it's a way of life anymore, not a choice.

11. Not just those stores doing better,
one of my friends owns a busy liquor store on a great intersection. He says his business is better than ever, with most people saying they just don't have enough left after paying utilities, credit card bills, buying groceries and MOST OF ALL GAS. So they buy a case of beer or bottle of booze & stay home instead of going out.
