Swiss accidentally invade Liechtenstein
Fri Mar 2, 8:51 AM ET

ZURICH, Switzerland - What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein.

According to Swiss daily Blick, the 170 infantry soldiers wandered just over a mile across an unmarked border into the tiny principality early Thursday before realizing their mistake and turning back.

A spokesman for the Swiss army confirmed the story but said that there were unlikely to be any serious repercussions for the mistaken invasion.

"We've spoken to the authorities in Liechtenstein and it's not a problem," Daniel Reist told The Associated Press.

There's a metaphor here somewhere...

3. And that has happened around all peaceful
borders at one time or another....

Hell... it never raised even to the level of ahem, kill a tree for a report, but once I had to politely point to two border patrol officers that oops they were on the wrong side of the border.

They went, no we are not

Yes, yes you are, here is the GPS, can you kindly get me a chopper though for your two citizens?

They were over by one hundred yards....

Patients went to the hospital, border patrol went to their side of the unmarked border and we went home

Everybody was happy, and no trees were killed either or even was raised anywhere beyond a chuckle and quite a bit of laughter.

Of course that was in another era... these days am afraid somebody might have gotten seriously hurt or killed.
