Sanchez: Kerik Was Focused on Busting Baghdad Whorehouses
By Paul Kiel - May 5, 2008, 11:20AM

More score settling. Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez opens fire on Bernie Kerik's time training the Iraqi police in Iraq:

"He is a very energetic guy. He is very confident - overconfident to an extent - and he is very superficial in his understanding of the requirements of his job," Sanchez said. "His whole contribution was a waste of time and effort."...

Sanchez said Kerik focused more on "conducting raids and liberating prostitutes" than training the Iraqis.

"They'd get tips and they'd go and actually raid a whorehouse," Sanchez told The News. "Their focus becomes trying to do tactical police operations in the city of Baghdad, when in fact there is a much greater mission that they should be doing, which is training the police."...

Kerik denied arresting any prostitutes in Iraq and said the Army always knew about his operations.

1. Kerik continuing his Hook-n-Book tactics of the NYPD in Iraq.

Bet he "liberated" a lot of ladies during his tenure.

2. That is incredible. They are like the gang who couldn't shoot straight, only with way more
collateral damage.

Of course, Sanchez is no saint, himself. When you know and you don't act, you're culpable, too. Then again, he says, like that one star general (Karpinski?) they hung out to dry, that he's a scapegoat, too...only thing is, he got a promotion, she got a DEmotion.

Then again, I haven't yet read his book, so I won't excoriate overmuch. It could be his "Blinded By The Right" moment.

3. This goes a long way toward explaining Kerik and other members
of the current administration: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=980CE7D6173FF935A35751C0A9669C8B63

The Way We Live Now: 2-6-00; Incompetence Is Bliss

Now two social psychologists, Justin Kruger of the University of Illinois and David Dunning of Cornell, have taken these questions of self-assessment out of the realm of serious mental disorder and into our daily lives. Their recent study, ''Unskilled and Unaware of It,'' reveals that few people have any idea how incompetent they really are. Subjects were tested, and were also asked to assess their skill level, in a number of areas. Those who scored lowest on the objective tests scored highest in their own self-evaluation. The same held true in reverse: high-scoring subjects underestimated their skills and how well they compared with others.

At first glance, the Cornell study -- which launched a thousand knowing conversations around dinner tables and water coolers -- seems merely to prove what anyone who has held a job, picked up a prescription or indeed ever left his or her apartment has known for a long time. Not only is ignorance bliss, so to speak, but on some days the world seems as if it's run by a veritable conspiracy of perfectly self-assured dunderheads.

(great article, 'splains a lot)
