They won many races at the Derby. Why not today?

They did race two and three year olds way back. No three year old won the race before winning as a two year old.

I'm still not sure what that track was dirt or sand or combination.

6. African-Americans and the KY Derby
This is an easy question to answer. An African-American won the Kentucky Derby in its first running. After 1921, there was no African-American jockey in the Derby until 2000, when Marlon St. Julien entered the Derby.

St. Julien is my uncle (by marriage).

9. If this thread is intended to be about jockeys, it certainly was poorly worded.
For example, Big Brown is a horse, not a jockey, and was ridden by Kent Desormeaux

Were there any African-American jockeys in the race this year? A quick glance through the photos is a bit inconclusive, but it seems not.
