One of the most successful religious con jobs of the last 50 years has been the peace,love and mung bean-ification of Tibetan buddhism which in practice was an oppressive violent system of feudal ownership and peasant serfdom. It is/was no different from any other ruling ideology. Certain Tibetan orders are rich as Croesus, one, headed by the Karmapa Lama is worth over a BILLION dollars. One would think some of that cash could be used to improve the lives of Tibet's poor.

The Dalai Lama is not the cuddly patchouli reeking hippy the west keeps insisting he is. He is the "spiritual head" of a religion every bit as backward, violent and anachronistic as any other.

DL praised the bombing of Afghanistan (it was a liberation apparently...mmm just what the Chinese say about Tibet), believes the ongoing war against Iraq was "justified" and thought Vietnam "started out" okay but ended badly(???)
