I was getting tired of listening to how "conservative" the man is - as if the DLC raised him up from nothing to smite the liberals - and found this:

Dear media,

I appreciate the Jim Webb love currently radiating from all corners of the punditocracy. It's why bloggers like Daily Kos, Raising Kaine, and so many others dragged him into the race and then moved mountains to help him defeat George Allen -- the presumptive GOP frontrunner for the 2008 presidential nomination.

We were working on his behalf before you even knew there would be a competitive Senate race in Virginia.

And while we laugh at your assertions that Webb is a "conservative", with your simplistic understanding of his policy positions (he's more than just pro-gun), we'll accept that as well. We don't expect you to traffic in complexity.

But remember this -- Jim Webb is a people-powered candidate. He's one of ours. He's not a product of the political or media establishments, but of the people. It's something of which Webb himself is quite proud.
