$6B (Neil Bush) Reading Program Failed
From Time:

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1736581,00.html

WASHINGTON) — A reading program at the center of President Bush's signature education law hasn't added to children's understanding of what they read, a federal study has found.
The federal government has spent about $6 billion on Reading First, which was created as part of the 2002 No Child Left Behind law and brings extra reading instruction, based on recommended practices, into low-income elementary schools.

The report out Thursday from the Institute of Education Sciences, an independent arm of the Education Department, finds no difference in reading comprehension scores among students who participated in Reading First and those who did not.

4. Consider, if you will, the literacy level of Neil's brother George
And then consider that George has gone on national television to explain
that he had an (his word, here, not mine) "ecolectic" reading list last summer,
and none of this really should come as a surprise to anyone.

18. Absolutely.
Money for public schools is useless, so we should stop funding them entirely. Fundamentalist Christian religious education vouchers for everyone!!

A HUGE success. Pulling money into Bush bank accounts, that is. Is there any other way to measure success?

9. would have gone a ways toward more books, tutors and better teacher to student ratios
But, Neil has to make a living, and Babs needs her tax benefits for giving money for his company as her way of helping the Katrina victims.

11. but Neils REAL mission, like the entire corrupt Bush family & friends, did NOT Fail..
Edited on Thu May-01-08 01:56 PM by Blaze Diem
They're only mission has consistantly been to profit. And that they have done.
No matter how they do it, success to these people is that their bank accounts continue to grow by the millions.
Now that is a successful 'Bush'.
you see? and they are protected from more than a hand slap and brief bad press, with George in the White House, creating a justice system that will protect them and laws to cover their criminal theivery from ever being prosecuted.
Just another example of mission-accomplished, by the Bush crime family.

20. Oh they realize it all right.
It's the Bush family Modus Operandi. Run everything you touch into the ground while you extricate any money value from it into your personal fortune. Then you walk away with the money from the failed program or business as if nothing happened. They really are nothing more than crooks and the fact that they got as far as ruining a whole country with their flim flam game makes me scratch my head.

22. The Bush Family 'Reading First' Scam-- George, Jeb, Neil and Ma Bush
Study: $6B Reading Program Failed, TIME, May 1, 2008

By AP/NANCY ZUCKERBROD

(WASHINGTON) — A reading program at the center of President Bush's signature education law hasn't added to children's understanding of what they read, a federal study has found.

The federal government has spent about $6 billion on Reading First, which was created as part of the 2002 No Child Left Behind law and brings extra reading instruction, based on recommended practices, into low-income elementary schools.

The report out Thursday from the Institute of Education Sciences, an independent arm of the Education Department, finds no difference in reading comprehension scores among students who participated in Reading First and those who did not.

.....

It's not the first time backers of the program have been dealt bad news.

Investigations by Congress and Education Department Inspector General John Higgins previously found that federal officials and contractors didn't guard against conflicts of interest in the program. For example, officials that gave states advice on which teaching materials to buy had financial ties to publishers of such materials, according to a congressional report.

.....

George W. Bush (NCLB) laundered to Jeb's! Florida ----> Neil's *educational software* for sale.....

Jeb!'s Florida was a LARGE beneficiary of Reading First. Isn't that nice.....

The Bush Family 'Reading First' Scam

Barbara Bush Katrina Donation Earmarked For Son Neil's Software Company

Former first lady Barbara Bush donated an undisclosed amount of money to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund with specific instructions that the money be spent with an educational software company owned by her son Neil.

Since then, the Ignite Learning program has been given to eight area schools that took in substantial numbers of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Dubai funds Neil Bush's company

Nice how it all benefits this family, isn't it?

23.  i wonder how many computers, buses, teachers pay
and adequate schools $6 bill could have paid for. I don't know why we still have not realized that broad and concrete standards will not work across the board. They should have just given the money to the lowest 1% of schools in the country. I bet that the principals and teachers at those schools would have ideas on how to spend it properly.

they figured they would waste only about $400 million while further eroding public education. Instead they funneled $6 BILLION into the pockets of the connected while further eroding public education.
