Grayson County Justice of the Peace Mike Reeves (left) and Texas Department of Public Safety Cpl. Merle Collins (right) are on the scene of a fatality accident on Wednesday in which a 9-year-old girl died and her father was airlifted to Parkland Hospital. Department of Public Safety Trooper Jim Bob Walters is taking photos of the scene.

3. Offhand, I'd bet on a Momvan
but I'd be wrong. The miracle is that the dad survived, given the description of that accident. It will be interesting to see what his tox report shows.

9. Daughter was in the suicide seat
Front passenger. I thought it was considered wise to make sure kids were in the back seat, at least until they reach a certain size. Wonder if she was killed by the airbag going off or the collision.

That being said, why in the world didn't the guy SLOW DOWN when he saw the traffic backup from the school bus stopping? Oh, I forgot. This is Texas. They drive like maniacs around there.

8. it ran underneath the back end of a semi and had the front right shorn off
Any car would be that tore up running under a semi. I don't know what kind of car it was though, looks like those could be Pontiac wheels on it.

13. The guy rear-ended a Semi truck without even attempting to stop
I don't think there is any vehicle that would save him from his own stupidity and recklessness...

14. I guessed some sort of SUV and was right. I am also guessing
either yakking on the cell phone or substance abuse as a contributing factor.

15. In Europe they require the semi trailers to have metal guards...
on the back to prevent this kind of tragedy.

17. Here too....it's called an ICC bumper.....
and I'll guarantee there was one in place. That said they are not that robust and do not extend fully to the side of the trailer. They were only ever meant to stop lower speed crashes....the vehicle shown is pretty obviously peeled open at the cargo box height....

18. They are supposed to have them in the US too
The condition of that SUV is surprising to me. I watched a mid 90's Buick LeSabre rearend a stopped semi trailer in Kansas City - doing every bit of 75 mph (they didn't even attempt to brake) that showed no where near that kind of damage.

19. I wonder if he was talking on his mobile phone . . .
that sort of inattention suggests he had his mind on something other than driving.
