AMERICABLOG : New head of Walter Reed let soldier sleep in his own urine
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 11:38 AM by whereismyparty
"New head of Walter Reed let soldier sleep in his own urine
by John Aravosis (DC) · 3/01/2007 06:46:00 PM ET

Are these people insane? The Army fired the head of Walter Reed today, and the new guy who's taking over until they can hire a permanent replacement is Kevin Kiley, the same guy who reportedly let a soldier sleep in his own urine, and refused to lift a finger when he was notified by the wife of a GOP congressman who had witnessed the horrifying scene..."

With an update here:

"General Kiley, the man who reportedly left an injured American soldier to sleep in his own urine is now BACK in charge at Walter Reed, after presiding over all the worst abuses at Walter Reed for two years. Why does Urine Man have any job in the military, let alone back at the helm of Walter Reed?..."

5. They'll give him a medal like they did Rummy for Abu Ghraib.
I like your idea though! And the stop loss thing would be good to keep him out on point with, for a loooong time.

3. If Kiley is the best the Army can do for now this problem is a system-wide pandemic.
In addition to negating ten of millions of dollars worth of advertising for recruits this shows the true nature of Bushworld - they simply dont care for the have-nots.

7. i just realized the point of all of this . . .
lieberman was on imus this morning touting privatization of the va. i think this admin deliberately makes gummint look bad so they can get the public on board the privatization train.

ed schultz hit the nail on the head . . . private companies are in it to make money.

here we go again!

12. Making govt. look bad to justify privatization has always been Bush's raison d'etre.
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 01:13 PM by Divernan
FEMA was the prime example. He appointed Joe Albaugh (one of his campaign managers and his chief of staff in Texas) as head of FEMA with the task of closing the agency down. Albaugh had no emergency service experience, but he did have hatchet man experience. Bush's attitude was, "Hey if you can't afford insurance, or have enough personal wealth, to cover all calamities, that's your tough luck." Albaugh abused the top levels of civil servants at FEMA to drive them into early retirement or to find jobs elsewhere. Then when 9/11 happened, Bush had to keep FEMA around but downgraded it and took away its cabinet level status by putting it under Chertoff's Homeland Security umbrella. At that point, Albaugh quit cause he was too important to report to anyone but the President.

That's when Albaugh's old college roomie, Brownie, was given the job. Hundreds and hundreds of hard-working employees left in disgust, and they were not replaced. When Katrina hit, there were 600 unfilled job slots at FEMA in D.C. alone, and many more at regional offices throughout the country.

The bottom line is that privatization is about profit, and the only way to profit is to either raise the price of services and/or reduce the quantity and quality of services. Because you have to build in higher salaries for the private sector, plus dividends for stockholders.

8. Why does BushCo ALWAYS choose the worst possible person for important jobs?
I'm sure they really don't want to fail, but over and over again they choose the person who is guaranteed to do just that. It's insanity.

11. They absolutely do want to fail, in the sense of government services failing.
They want to get government small enough that they can drown it in a bathtub, per Grover Norquist.

As for me, I want to see the incompetents running this government go down the drain.

13. Exactly! Then they can cite this as proof that gov. is ineffective and privitize everything
As you are sure to remember the second largest contigent in Iraq behind US forces is mercenaries getting 4 or more times the pay of our military for doing the same job.

19. OF COURSE they want to fail!
Okay, not personally but they want "government" to fail. I don't know why they're under the delusion that they aren't "the government" but they are. The neocons think they can separate themselves from "the government" and nobody will notice that THEY are the ones running it! Hopefully, not for too much longer.

18. "THEY COULDN'T DELIVER ICE...NOW THEY ARE IN CHARGE OF SUPPORT SERVICES AT WALTER REED"
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicsasusual/2007/03/they_couldnt_de.html
Chairman Henry Waxman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sent a letter to Major General George Weightman, former Walter Reed Army Medical Center commander asking about a memorandum the committee has uncovered.

"This memorandum, which we understand was written in September 2006, describes how the Army's decision to PRIVATIZE SUPPORT SERVICES AT WALTER REED MEDICAL CENTER was causing an EXODUS OF HIGHLY SKILLED AND EXPERIENCED PERSONNEL." As a result according to the memorandum , WRAMC BASE OPERATIONS AND PATIENT CARE SERVICES ARE AT RISK OF MISSION FAILURE."

Waxman says "We have learned that in January 2006 WALTER REED awarded a FIVE-YEAR, $120 MILLION contract to a company called IAP WORLDWIDE SERVICES...IAP IS BEST KNOWN FOR THE PROBLEMS IT ENCOUNTERED DELIVERING ICE during the response to Hurricane Katrina. The COMPANY IS LED BY AL NEFFGEN, a FORMER HALLIBURTON OFFICIAL..."
