Principal named for new charter school in Cambridge Lakes
Varied experience: Joshua Emmett will lead school set to open in the fall

PINGREE GROVE -- Joshua Emmett, an assistant principal at Belvidere High School, has been named principal of the new Cambridge Lakes Charter School set to open in the fall.

Cambridge Lakes Charter School is being built in the 2,650-home Cambridge Lakes subdivision, on the south side of Illinois 72 between Reinking Road and Illinois 47. It is one of the few developer-backed charter schools in the country.

Charter schools are alternatives to public schools and receive the same tax money public schools normally would receive for each student they enroll. The schools are free from most state regulations.

Larry Fuhrer, Northern Kane's vice chairman of development, said Emmett stood out to the academic task force that picked him because of his varied experience, personal investment in teaching and learning, and commitment to excellence.

"Joshua Emmett will lead with a quiet confidence and a dedication to high student achievement," Fuhrer said. "His goals and professional objectives match those of Cambridge Lakes Charter School."
