On the firing of George Weightman, commander of Walter Reed Army Medical center

Reed said, "We have to go further. This step does represent change in accountability, we can look back the last several years at Abu Ghraib, senior commanders not held accountable. Determined to hold this commander accountable, whatever responsibility he shares is not alone.

Reed likened the accountability at Walter Reed to that of Abu Ghraib and said "it’s a chain of command issue."

Later, he said, "Its not just about firing an individual, its about fixing a problem. And the problem extends beyond Walter Reed."

Patty Murray agreed saying she wants accountability at the "highest levels in the White House."

She said officials there tried to "deflate the impact" of the war on Veterans. She pointed out that soldiers can get excellent care at Walter Reed, but the real problems behind when they go home to their smaller communities and the care is not readily available any more.
