I've always thought is was a perfect example of her style over substance attitude.

2. LOL... Nice boots
It doesn't bother me it just seems odd. Why is she wearing that? Who was she trying to impress? Seriously! But what's worse is that she didn't pull off the sexy look she was going for, IMO.

I'm glad that the magnifying glass has begun to catch her in its lense. Her incompetence will haunt her, so she better enjoy her "fashion," I guess.

5. ANY picture of Condoleeza Rice bothers me
But that one certainly sends shivers down up my spine. I bet those are the boots she makes George lick while she's paddling his ass, screaming "Who's my litte war bitch???"

6. This thread is style over substance.
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 08:56 AM by lwfern
This thread is part of the problem. Why do we need yet more commentary on what women in politics wear, when we ALREADY get a disproportionate amount of narrative on what women look like, what colors they are wearing, and what their hemlines are?

23. "disproportionate"
Out-of-style thinking
Women in government stand out because of their strength, intellect and ideas — not because of their hemlines. Yet here we are in 2007 still treating powerful women like a novelty.

(snip)

Similar articles appeared in the Baltimore Sun and Chicago Tribune. Mentioned were other women politicians and their fashion choices, such as Sen. Hillary Clinton's hair style and preference for black pantsuits or Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's haircut. The question is whether focusing on the clothing choices of serious female political players risks rendering them less than serious. Another question is whether such reports warrant precious space. After all, with rare exceptions, male politicians are seldom scrutinized for their choice of suits.
If some things have changed, the news media's take on female politicians has a tendency to recycle the same old clichés about them. Coverage of first female House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's fashion sensibility in the media is Exhibit A.

Some reporters and editors haven't figured out a way to cover female politicians that doesn't rely on the old stereotypes, says Gail Dines, sociology and women's studies professor at Wheelock College in Boston. "To be a woman politician, you have to strategize and work hard, and yet what matters is what designer you're wearing. It's a way to make women in power less scary," Dines notes. "It's putting women into a comfort zone for those who are still baffled by how to treat strong women."

18. Exactly. And what about Rudy wearing dresses? Or Dubay's
wearing those absurd cowboy boots with the presidential seal on them with a dinner jacket?

If Hillary and Laura appeared in public wearing jeans which showed rear cleavage, they would deserve criticism.

Inappropriate is inappropriate, regardless of sex.

And Condi "Puss in Boots" Rice's garb is very inappropriate for a Secretary of State.

16. Look, I'm so far left that I often suspect Karl Marx of being a running-dog lackey,
but what Ms Rice wears is of no importance, at all. I think that everyone should wear jeans and a work-shirt, but clothing seems to be important to most folks, so what?

Yoko Ono used to say that politicians should have to conduct business in the nude. While I usually agree with her, in this instance, I do not.

17. Apologies to the geniuses who gave us the Rush Limbaugh song...
..."She's a Nazi, Sieg Heil!"

Actually, Rice would have been sent to a concentration camp under Hitler's rule, so I think she is both a poor diplomat, historian and scholar. Personally, since there is very little in the way of corroborating evidence to prove otherwise, I really doubt her credentials would hold up under scrutiny.

Much like her boyfriend's "flight experience."

34. No, she just bothers me.
If the skirt were a bit longer and the heels a bit lower, I would wear it to a Pirates Meetup. It needs a hat with an ostrich plume and a cutlass to complete the outfit.

It looks like she's learned better how to do her hair.

I really don't care what she looks like or what she wears. I am much more bothered by the fact that either she is incredibly stupid or thinks the American people are.
