9. Both simpler and harder than you think

THE QUESTION

It seemed simpler somehow at first
as he awakened to a fresh, clean day
to live life and play the time away--
Chasing butterflies and rainbow-colored clouds
across a lazy, never-ending afternoon.
But questions popped into his head,
and he became obsessed with knowing things,
and finding out the hidden answers
to the silent questions burning in his mind.
He became a seeker as he grew into a man--
What might be found he could not say,
nor point toward the proper way.
A puzzle it remained to him;
and through his life things more complex
demanded thought and deed,
'till overwhelmed he gave it up one day--
He stopped longing for the subtleties
to be explained to him.
And that was when it came to him how really
simple it was all along! So then he had
the answer to the only question
he would ever need.
"But Why?" is what he asked one day while
chasing butterflies and rainbow-colored clouds
across the lazy, never-ending afternoon.
And then he saw the answer simply was
