And then you can take ol' Granny out back, and leave her for the wolves.

Ohhh no, don't make a fuss over me. Jes let me lie down in front of the truck, and Jethro won't hardly feel a bump when he drives over my old body.

I kin tell when the kinfolk are ready to move on, with their highfalutin' Beverly Hills, Bluebear ways.

'Course, Mr. Bluebear might want to think twice, 'fore insulting us hill folk.

Not knot, naught. You remember: Naught times naught, is naught. 007 is a double naught spy.

Got to get it right, because after all, Jethro gave up his dream of becoming a brain surgeon to becom a double-naught spy, and we need to respect that.

94. He isn't. Years ago
the father of a school friends met Max Baer. "Beverly Hillbillies" was being filmed on location in New York City and he was attached to the production by ConEd (he worked for them) to make sure that nothing went wrong with the electricity. He was with the show for several days and had several opportunities to talk to Max. Mr. Elwell said that not only was Mr. Baer a nice guy, down-to-earth with no pretensions about the show or his acting, but that he was also intelligent, in now way resembling "Jethro".

:hi:

I woke up this morning to a loud crash, went to investigate. dirt all over the living room floor -- one of them got into a plant.

came home from work, and it was even worse.

this time it was 3 plants, and in the garage, =one or two of them knocked one of the the litter boxes over.

they took one look at my face and scattered.

it took them over 2 hours to show their faces again.

Still, point made and taken. As Dad to a 31-year-old daughter who is a great friend, too, I would never have imagined that crap.

Admittedly, it fits here, but I trust it's just an aberration, not the kind of sickening behavior at the cult.

i subscribe and get 2 books a month. next month i will download "Escape".

i recently read "No Man Knows My History" by Fawn Brodie, a biography of Joseph Smith that seems to be hated by LDSers and FLDSers with the same gusto. prolly cos it is meticulously well-researched.

107. I've read about that book
The lady who wrote it was a Mormon of course and she thought it would turn out to be good things about him but what she found out really shocked her. I like the book "Escape" but some of the things kept me on the edge...and the animal stories were upsetting. I grew up in a very strict fundie school where we had to wear our skirts a certain lenght, couldn't wear pants to school, went to chruch all the time, etc. but compared to her life ours was a picnic.

I don't ADVISE it, but hell, my 18 year old sister has two kids already and she is a hell of good parent even if she is a bit young.

So parents being minors is not an issue with me. Coercive parenthood and marriage on the other hand is sick.

79. Should've added "apologies to Appalachians one and all"....
That being said, there are a number of small-gene-pool communities still in existence in the US today.

In this case, the family resemblance among this group of women is so stark that they all look like the product of the same mother and father, i.e. sisters. The Warren Jeffs Theory of Godlike Procreation means that they may in fact be such close cousins as to virtually constitute full sisters.

In times to come perhaps the new cheap shot stereotype (I did read the responses to my post) will refer to the FLDS cult.

What would nonverbal language people say about that. In the pic on the right, it is the same, although they appear to have their hands up to their faces because they are crying.

It's shocking to see this on DU. It's shocking to find any Democrat that would defend the abuse and enslavement of women.

150 years ago these same people would have been defending the enslavement of black people in this country. After all they had clothes and food and many didn't run away or fight back when unshackled.

86. Though I've decided to stay an active participant in these threads
Though I've decided to stay an active participant in these threads, yesterday I was a wee bit tempted to wash my hands of the topic due to our three vociferous defenders of the sect (the Three Magi) and their non-sequiters, banal inanities and shots from the hip armed with nothing other than (willful?) mis-information, and simply put them on ignore.

I allowed myself to get frustrated by their posts, which is silly-- why let myself become angered due to an opinion held by a few ineffectual and obtuse youths? Let them Rage Against the Machine and Stand Up to the Man, and in doing so it's their foreheads and their foreheads only that will become bloodied by banging them against the wall of morality, common-sense and rule of law.

Yet to do them justice, I don't think they are as such defending this cult as much as they are attacking the actions of the state and local authorities. A knee-jerk and negative reaction based on some trendy anarchism (of which, a basic tenet appears to be, "the State can do no good, thus all victims of the state can do no bad-- see, I've even got the tattoos and t-shirts etched with bumper sticker philosophies to prove it!!!").

No... I really don't think they are defending the practice of underage marriages, brainwashing, fundamental extremism, and rape (although I cannot understand why they just won't come out and say that-- if for no other reason than as an act of good faith on their parts...). I think their fault merely lies in giving in a wink and a nod to these distempers of the society; conveniently overlooking them in their greater quest to become the High Priests and Priestess in the Church of Cynicism, Anarchy and Anti-Authoritarianism.

But at the end of the day, I think it would be wise if I simply did not entertain their conjectures-- from where I sit, it would be akin to asking a three year old to sit in on, and add their views in an advanced trig class.

So I won't put them on ignore as I'd like a better understanding of them through their posts, but I certainly won't have any actual discussions with them at this point. For me, no good can come of their perspectives, and their mulishness and pride prevents them to an admission that their perspectives are simply misguided (at best).

120. It's annoying that some can't see the problem is the behavior of the adults, not the teens.
The problem is not (just) the fact that teens are pregnant, but HOW they got that way by WHOM. WHAT was the behavior of the adults? THAT is the problem.

121. It's like these girls are seen as just bodies - objects
and the objects have been ruined. It doesn't really matter how or by whom. The end result is the same so what difference does it make. That attitude is distressing.

If we realize that these girls are human beings, then we can see that it is a huge difference whether they're being raped and used as sex slaves and brood mares on one hand, and in the other circumstance are willingly choosing to have sex with peers. Obviously in some of the other cases of underage pregnancy in Texas, some of those girls were raped as well, and I certainly hope if that was found to be the case those girls would be protected as well.

The mothers (girls) are teens. The fathers (men) are adults. It's rape by any other name.
