10. No. I'm honestly afraid to.
I fear I will feel so overwhelmed, helpless and angry. I'm ashamed to admit it, but it's the truth.

Same with Naomi Wolf's book. But I'm working up the courage.

Just what I've heard from both of them makes me crazy.

The state of shock is a temporary thing.

Shock wears off; it is by definition a temporary state. And the best way to stay oriented, to resist shock is to know what is happening to you and why.

Information is shock resistance.

Arm yourself.

It's a tough book to read, yet ultimately inspiring. Time after time the efforts to repress, suppress or oppress people is blocked by the people who are the targeted "demographic of the day".

Please inform yourself. Do it a chapter or two at a time.

18. So am I. "Trying", that is!
It is tough-going. I'm learning a lot, but sometimes it reads like a college textbook, IMO.

I give her tons of credit for tackling such a difficult topic. I'll try the video at another time, but thanks for the link. It takes forever to download on dial-up.

19. Link to video of Book-TV's "After Words" with Naomi Klein discussing "The Shock Doctrine"
It's an hour. A very well spent hour, imho.

After Words: Naomi Klein author of "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" interviewed by Franklin Foer, editor of The New Republic

Watch now!
About the Program
In "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" Naomi Klein argues that in the wake of natural and manmade devastation economic reform is introduced to benefit investors and free market advocates while taking advantage of moments of collective disorientation. Ms. Klein focuses her criticism on Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics, which she posits assisted in creating a model for the "shock doctrine" and presents examples for her argument by profiling the current situations in Iraq and New Orleans. Naomi Klein is interviewed by Franklin Foer, editor of The New Republic and author of "How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory for Globalization."
