My parents were personal friends of her and she had a profound impact on my life. I have never had the opportunity to honor her and I think DU is the perfect place to do that.

Representative Green taught me many things. She represented, and continues to represent to me, the most important things about the Democratic Party.

Social justice.

Fairness and tolerance.

The imperative of speaking for those without a voice.

Bigotry in any form is intolerable.

We can make a difference.

Silence is complicity.

I salute you, Edith Green. Thank you for the gift that you have given me. I wish more had had the opportunity to have known you, as I did, as a child.
