Why is there not more of an outcry against the war(s)?
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 11:54 AM by KC2
Yes, there are protests. But, while reading the news out of Iraq this morning, I wondered why there are not more protests...why people are not completely outraged. Have we - as a majority - become "sheeple"? Do we not see what quagmires the wars in Irag and Afghanistan have become? :-(

4. That is a good point...
when/if the privileged were shipped off to war, and not allowed to opt out of it, I have not doubt things would be different.

26. I'll second that
I remember, I was young at the time, but I can still remember the days when young men were conscripted off the streets into military service and forcibly shipped off to war. My big brother got lucky and didn't get selected before the draft ended, but I remember how worried he was that he was about to get sent over there.

If we started the draft again, I bet it wouldn't be any time at all before the nation would be clamoring to end this madness.

6. Because the media, and most people,
treat war as some distant, abstract sporting event. This war has no direct impact on the average American citizen, and can very easily be ignored.

If there were a draft, or if the media covered the true ugliness of war, then perhaps people would take notice.

9. 1972
This election is looking way too much like the 1972 Presidential Election already.

Many are afraid to protest now. The Mighty Slime Machine would twist it to help McCain, just like they did for Nixon in 1972, when he took 49 states.

15. Because it doesn't affect most people directly.
Just those in Iraq and who have family in the military in Iraq.

Most people don't concern themselves about an issue if it doesn't affect them directly. When it does, they can and do speak out. Remember how people objected to the idea of privatizing Social Security.
