Randi, Randi, Randi, American Idol jumped the shark tonight!
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 07:38 PM by valerief
Probably in response to your news.

They opened the show with a stage full of people singing a song dedicated to Jesus. They followed it with the Monkees' "I'm a Believer."

I guess they're telling America there's no room for non-Jesus people.

Maybe they're telling us America has jumped the shark.

Randi, Randi, Randi, with your departure from Air America, it sure does seem America has jumped the shark.

Edited to add the word 'show'

1. Maybe they're looking for balance! I'm A Believer was written by Jewish Neil Diamond. ;)

8. Balance between believers and who? More believers?
It doesn't matter who wrote the song. It's the chorus line that reinforces the religion message. And it followed a song sung to Jesus.

Gee, I'll bet atheists and Muslims really want to give money to AI with that message.

12. Sorry...here are the lyrics for the chorus
Then I saw her face
Now Im a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
Im in love
Im a believer
I couldn't leave her if I tried

Was Christ a woman?

14. Again, the chorus is I'm a Believer. It reinforces religion. The other lyrics are irrelevant. nt

22. Except I'm A Believer is a love song about a woman. I guess my flip remark
about Neil Diamond was irrelevant.

2. You do realize that the words to "I'm a Believer" go...
..."And I saw her face, now I'm a believer", right?

7. Yes. People only know the words to the chorus 'I'm a Believer.'
It's a way to say bugger off to non-believers.

26. Try thinking of it this way, all of the songs that don't mention Jesus are meant
to show acceptance for atheists, and the songs that mention Jesus show tolerance for religious types.

9. I don't know any Jesus songs. I just heard them address Jesus
in the lyrics.

Inspirational is 'Dream the Impossible Dream,' not 'Jesus, You're the Man' or whatever it was.

6. AI is looking . . .
. . . to be all things to all people. That's why they make sure they stir in the religion and patriotic stuff.

And besides, don't forget -- it's on Fox, doncha know.

10. Jesus songs belong on Jesus shows. If the song had been a generic god
song, it would have been less offensive.

It's like Pat Robertson produced the thing. Maybe he did. Maybe all the contributions will go to him.

13. That's not the point I was making. Do you want non-believers to be
force-fed Jesus on this popular show? What about freedom from religion? I guess the Constitution is officially dead.

I'm sure you wouldn't want to be force-fed Allah songs or God is Dead songs all the time, especially not on such a popular show.

I see that decision of theirs to be irresponsible. Although it IS Fox. What more can you expect from the NeoConNetwork?

17. Anyone who takes American Idol seriously has bigger problems than Jesus songs
I try to avoid that show whenever possible, but as far as I know, it hasn't turned into "The Old Time Gospel Hour".

Maybe they'll have Cat Stevens on next week, in the interest of equal time. Or they could have a "death metal" week and sing only Satanic songs?

Doesn't matter to me, it's gonna suck either way.

AI even dumped Michael Johns. It so jumped the shark.
