Historians rate Shrub as bad. Really, really, bad...
http://hnn.us/articles/48916.html

"A Pew Research Center poll released last week found that the share of the American public that approves of President George W. Bush has dropped to a new low of 28 percent.

An unscientific poll of professional historians completed the same week produced results far worse for a president clinging to the hope that history will someday take a kinder view of his presidency than does contemporary public opinion."
<...>

"In an informal survey of 109 professional historians conducted over a three-week period through the History News Network, 98.2 percent assessed the presidency of Mr. Bush to be a failure while 1.8 percent classified it as a success."
<...>

"Asked to rank the presidency of George W. Bush in comparison to those of the other 41 American presidents, more than 61 percent of the historians concluded that the current presidency is the worst in the nation’s history. Another 35 percent of the historians surveyed rated the Bush presidency in the 31st to 41st category, while only four of the 109 respondents ranked the current presidency as even among the top two-thirds of American administrations."

1. Certainly George W bush has a great historical legacy..
.. that exists in his own deluded, demented,
propaganda-crazed mind.

3. The Bush family will have to hire ghostwriters to get a *positive* history
of his administration written. Poppy is going to need a bib, he's going to be crying the rest of his life over how Junior has shamed the family name.

... but thank ghod for teh internets; we can all see what has happened during this disastrous "reign."

5. He's the worst. Andrew Johnson and Nixon were my bottom feeders.
But W beats 'em all. I remember reading that while we have had disastrous presidents, W is the first catastrophic president - i.e., the first presidency that has done such grave harm to the nation and the world that we will never fully recover.

I thought that was about right. I'm sure others are tempted to argue for Reagan or Buchanan or the two above as the worst, but don't waste your breath.

W is the worst, and no one here or elsewhere can convince me otherwise. I suspect many here will agree, as do the historians.

Thanks for the post. Made my day.

9. I guess the 1.8% like perpetual pre-emptive wars, mushrooming and unsustainable Federal
budget deficits, a rotting infrastructure, a failing economy, and a tanking dollar. If devastation and carnage are the hallmarks of success, then junior's tenure is quite a success indeed! :D

10. Unless history (eventually) writes he went to prison
it means Bush got away with it all

and Bush getting away with it all would speak very poorly of the country and its entire government.

He's a war criminal President who implemented and defended a torture policy...to merely describe Bush as "bad", or even the "worst", is like describing Ted Bundy as having contentious relationships with women. It just doesn't get to the truth of the matter.

Bundy eventually paid for his crimes. However, if he were alive today I'm sure he'd be extremely envious of Bush's body count.

These historians were graduates of either Liberty University or Bob Jones University, and were homeschooled by fanatical radical religious right-winged conservatives.

They're named G.W. Bish and Richard Chenny.

My team of researchers suspects that these are possibly pseudonyms.

group he is there to represent. The richest 1/2 of one percent think he is the most successful president of all time.

18. A worse band of incompetents
I cannot imagine. Cheney, Rice, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld and of course Bush. My god...how did such morons get to be running this nation? How could such lawless, mindless and flat out stupid people become our leaders? There aint a one of 'em could lead a class of first graders to the cafeteria without fucking it up and we put 'em in charge of our nation?? TWICE1!?!

I still cannot believe what has occurred in this nation over these last 7+ years. We have become a nation of frightened, flag waving dumb asses run by a regime of seriously stupid, lawless incompetents while our whole infrastruture and constitution are destroyed right before our eyes.

Worse president ever? Try the most twisted, mentally deranged bunch of criminals ever to wrestle control of a once proud nation from the hands of the people and destroy it in 7 short years. That gets a littel closer to reality me thinks.

Your sensory perception would have to be inferior to that of
Hellen Keller to even have a chance at rating this administration
a success. Where were these guys from, Bob Jones University, maybe?

I will guess one of them is Victor David Hanson. That guy has a Ph.D. in history?!?!?! You're kidding, right?

He's dumber than dirt and he would think this was all a great idea and a successful presidency.

30. I should ask Norm Ornstein
He's the only guy I know at AEI. He's sort of their token sane person.
Tolerated, but only barely. I think they trot Norm out when they want
to prove to the public that they don't all froth at the mouth during
daylight hours.

I've never heard of this Fischer guy, and
from what you say, I'm better off that way.

32. Well, he is an excellent historian if you buy his overall arguement
He's known for Albion's Seed...basically, he argues that colonial culture (traditions and ideals) can be traced back to four main "folkways" from Great Britain. Which is true but it makes for a very skewed version of Colonial American history. He short changes blacks, women and Native Americans. But Lynne Cheney thinks his book is peachy. I use it as a door stop.

35. My sympathies
I'm sort of ancient in that respect--class of '74. Got a daughter in law school,
which is kinda scary. I had to slog through texts in Medieval Spanish and stuff
like that for my degree, which ended up doing me no good at all, as I was recruited
for my outfit because I spoke Russian and German. At least I didn't have to pretend I
liked anything dreary!
