'Tased' Goodyear worker identified
The Capital-Journal
Published Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 3:42 p.m. CDT

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. worker who died Sunday morning after deputies used a Taser to subdue him has been identified as Walter E. Haake Jr., 59, of Lawrence.

Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called Saturday night to the Goodyear plant, 2000 N.W. US-24 highway.

Goodyear security officers told deputies they were trying to keep an employee who apparently was suffering from a medical condition from leaving the plant in his car because they thought he was unable to do so safely.

After several attempts to control the employee, a deputy used a Taser to subdue him. Deputies then removed him from his car.

The man then became unresponsive. He was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to a Topeka hospital, where he later died.

2. Sadistic bastards. Does anyone else think that tasering is cruel an unusual punishment
and is therefore outlawed by the constitution?

"they were trying to keep an employee who apparently was suffering from a medical condition from leaving the plant in his car because they thought he was unable to do so safely."

Guess they prevented him from hurting himself, since he was unable to leave safely.

4. we are certainly becoming inured to this kind of
torture. It is now official policy with the military and domestic police forces. Tasers should be outlawed.

7. I've said before, Tasers have been tested ONLY on young, healthy subjects, NEVER sick, pregnant, or
other subjects with medical or other problems.

See Volunteer Warnings, Risks, Liability Release and Covenant Not to Sue by "TASER INTERNATIONAL saving lives every day"

Tasers should be banned until tested on other than healthy subjects and then treated as a potentially lethal weapon.
