2. Iraq is going to became the standard first year out of SOI or MOS school
for Marines instead of Okinawa.

there is no end in sight.

29. And the Navy ain't exactly the Navy, a recruiter's lie.
The young man newly married signed up for the Navy because 'there ain't no ocean in Iraq'. Recruiter said he would either work on a submarine or a Navy hospital. Definitely. Oops. Forgot to mention the third possibility, being tapped to be a Navy corpsman, front lines in Iraq, supporting the marines as a medic.

Much admired, brave, probably saved some lives.
For almost a year now, he is lying in a hospital bed, occasionally able to squeeze a hand or blink his eyes to respond to a simple question, trying very hard to make sounds.
His much admired, brave wife is caring for him everyday AND for their 6-month old baby (who is cute as a button).

5. Sorry to hear that greenbriar
I have a nephew who already did a tour over there but will be returning in a few months. May they both stay safe. This Bushco war for profit sucks even more when your family is dragged into it.

I am so sorry!
I have had a few loved ones go over there. They are both back safely now. I am sure it will be the same for your BIL. Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

12. BIL is Brother in Law and AIT is Advanced Individual Training
That's where he will learn about Satellite Communications. I had the same job in the Army. One advantage is your equipment always has to be in an environmentally friendly shelter. When it's hot outside you have AC. When it's cold, you have heat.

9. That sucks but
my son was doing the Satellite communications too in Iraq and was on base

almost all the time. He also went to NY for specialized training before he

went 'in country'. Hang in there.

Hopefully your BIL's job will be on base, in an office, most of the time.

be shipping out of this area for a THIRD tour. People are pissed. This was on the local Fox News affiliate, and they very rarely even mention Iraq anymore, except to repeat the surge is working meme. But the report was fairly critical.

learning communications, that means he'll most likely be a desk jockey in an air conditioned office!! ;)

23. That's what
happened to my son and the other guys went out and checked the communication lines but he rarely
'went out' to check any relays, wires or signals. Someone has to man the computer and if they do
'that job, they get a trailer with satellite TV and AC and they only have one roommate and NO TENTS!!
