Fireworks, Hot Cables Land In WrestleMania Crowd, Injure 40

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Dozens of people were injured at a Wrestlemania event in Orlando when fireworks and cables landed on the crowd.

More than 70,000 wrestling fans packed the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium Sunday night for the event.

Fire officials said a pyrotechnics malfunction sent fireworks and hot cables flying into the crowd.

At least 40 people were injured. Officials say all the injuries were minor, but at least three people were taken to a hospital. Their conditions are not yet known.

I bet they just faked those injuries....

5. I used to watch wrestling all the time, even went to a few shows
when I was 10.

How grown adults can go to these things, unless they're just there to take their kids, is mind-boggling.

10. I stopped going to the shows in 1992.
However last month an independent promotion had a show inside the base gym. My sister came down to visit/attend Mardi Gras in New Orleans...so we figured what the heck.

Within the past 2 months both Raw and Smackdown have been in the area...I skipped both of them. The Smackdown show was so awful (taped it btw) I'm so glad I wasn't there; my only regret is the fast-forward only goes at 32x speed.

13. A friend of mine is a DJ for a local radio station.

His manager asked him to go down to one of these events and handout t-shirts and other station goodies. He called me frantic saying i had to go with him to help get rid of this shit ASAP:)

We were giving handfuls of it away. Scary people show up at those things.

9. I think it's great (at least parts of it)
I stopped watching the stuff on tv years ago; instead I tape it then fast forward through the boring/stupid parts...which is 2/3 of it. The remaining material is something I enjoy.

My Dad got me hooked on it in the late 70's. We would see Bruno Sammartino, a rookie Hulk Hogan, and a somewhat slim Andre The Giant. My favorite wrestler at the time (still my all-time favorite) was the Champion at the time...Bob Backlund.

These days I view it as a violent soap opera. Are things scripted...yes...but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

To each his/her own I guess...

On edit, this is my 500th post!

3. 70,000 wrestling fans? In just one city? We are well and truly

15. Hey, be nice.
I could easily say that over 4.5 million people in TX voted for shrub in 2004...which means we are well and truly ____.

Some of the antics I strongly dislike, but overall I'm like it. The parts I don't like are solved by the fast forward button on my dvr.

4. From the headline, I thought "Fireworks" and "Hot Cables" were the names of wrestlers.
Or maybe their female sidekicks.

7. My girlfriend's cousin was at this thing.
I just called him; he's fine, and actually didn't know the explosion/injuries had even happened until he saw it on the news this morning.

Don't ask me why he traveled from Boston to Orlando to see this event, please. I have no idea.

14. It can be addicting.
I went to Starrcade (in the days of the NWA) for 6 years straight; 1987-1992. Went to Chicago, Norfolk twice, Atlanta twice, and St. Louis.

At that time it was more wrestling and less of a circus...the current product is very unfulfilling.

11. Most injuries came not from the fireworks or cable...folding chairs.
