Iraq war 'sucks,' reporter says

Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan were the topics of discussion when award-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh was in Regina on Wednesday.

Hersh criticized the Bush administration for its role in the Iraq war but steered clear of giving Prime Minister Stephen Harper the same treatment.

"We are in real trouble (in Iraq)," said Hersh.

When the American government says the U.S. is winning in Iraq and isn't torturing prisoners, they are just words, he explained.

"I don't think it is bad for a journalist to come back (from covering a war) and say it sucks," said Hersh, who added he feels for the troops who are serving overseas and for what they are going through.

Hersh referred to Iraq as a "corpse" and said the country is ruled by militia. To the locals, the U.S. is just another militia taking over their country.
