UC Davis Investigating Rash Of Skunk Deaths

snip...
The Redding Animal Control officer has now tallied 42 dying or dead skunks in the area.

The state Department of Fish and Game is awaiting the results of testing at the University of California, Davis, on what's causing the illness.

Animal officers have also found raccoons and foxes that appear to be ill.

2. Something to worry about
Every evening we get a parade of skunks through our yard heading up to dine on the cat food our neighbor puts out for his approximately 30,000 feral cats.

3. Ugh. I wonder if it could be a mutated virus. We have to keep a
lookout for dead blue jays here because they could be dead from West Nile virus. No telling what is killing the skunks or other wild critters.
