Poll question: How many here at DU have signed up as Founders at Nova M Radio?
http://www.novamradio.com/

I assume most know that Nova M is a new network established by the people who launched Air America Radio. The Drobny's original vision was not fully realized by AAR and when AAR's owners fired Mike Malloy, they began working with the Phoenix KPHX station to build Nova M and put Malloy and others on the air. They are now on a dozen terrestrial radio stations and Sirius and (after March 1) XM satellite.

Although the Drobny's and Mike Newcomb of KPHX had enough money and expertise to get this effort underway, my impression is that the expansion of the network will be in part dependent on subscriptions as a supplement to ad revenue - a mixed economy sort of thing.

At any rate, Founders get access to some additional features like podcast versions, and a raffle ticket, but the real goal is to build a Pacifica type base to allow for expansion, along with the commercial deals to cover operations.

So my question is how you relate to this effort.

1. I listen online daily...
Rhandi Rhodes, Mike Malloy and as I type this Thomm Hartman is on commercial break. I am not sure how to respond to your poll...I am not at this moment "subscribing" to anything...just listening in.
(I Could not afford to make $$ contributions to anyone these days even if I wanted to..if that is what your poll is refering to)

2. You fit the last category
Me too, almost, but I signed up because it seemed to me to be one of those "fringe" (no Corporate backing) efforts where a few dollars can make a difference.

5. When you have been taught the secret founder handshake
you'll be a full member. Until then, you have the same low status as us other annual and monthly subscribers. Maybe they should send out PDF files of "Founder" certificates to put up on the wall along with other Diplomas and Good Attendance certificates?

6. I have serious doubts about this whole...
"network" scheme and think it's a cart/horse thing.

I know a lot more people who listen to either NPR or the local news stations when they want to hear talk on the radio. Some listen to the local Pacifica station, but no one I know bothered much with AAR.

The "Progressives" I personally know want information, not ranting, from their radios when they don't want music, and the nearest AAR station I could get, in Connecticut, just went to all sports because no one was listening. Or not listening as much as armchair jocks do. I didn't listen much anyway, since I'd rather hear Diane Riehm interview a death row survivor than yet another rant on the Bush Crime Family. I already know how bad the Shrub is.

I don't know why the Limbaughciles hang on to every word of his, or why any of the other wingnuts get an audience, but they didn't get their audience by starting up yet another underunded "network." They proved they could get an audience and advertising, and ended up being syndicated with one deal or another.

Our guys just gotta push for the right audience.
