2. If he was in his "forties" in 1971
he would be over 77 years old now...

Why bother trying to track him down now?

If the chute was buried... either he survived and got away with the money... or he died and someone else came along and buried him, the chute and go away with the money...

I'm guessing that he lived, he then scattered some of the bills along a river, hoping that they would be found farther downstream (that did happen) and made off with $150K or more.

Brilliant plan. Should have asked for at least 1/2 a million or more.

3. I Was Surprised That It Was Only $200,000
I remembered it being a lot of money. Maybe that was a lot then.

5. Quite a bit for then...
average new home prices in 1971 ranged from $22,500 to $30,800 (northeast).

Upon thinking a bit... I wonder how he asked for the money... likely he asked for it in either 100s (2,000 bills) or... maybe 20s (10,000 bills). 10,000 bills is a lot to carry around but $20s are a *lot* easier to spend back then... if you paid for things with $100 bills, people took notice. Plus he may have been concerned about serial numbers.

So maybe he had it pretty well figured out.

Wherever he ended up... here's to you DB.
