Norquist: ‘more people will die’ because Bush raised CAFE standards.

On the David Strom Show on March 22, Americans for Tax Reform head Grover Norquist attacked the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which President Bush signed into law last December to slowly raise corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards to 35 MPG by 2020. Norquist claimed that raising CAFE standards will kill Americans:

The government itself has calculated that around 2000 people a year are killed because of those CAFÉ standards and our cheerful government has just voted to increase them, to make cars lighter, smaller. And more people will die. I mean 2,000 people a year die because the environmentalists think that you should be in a smaller car because it offends their sensitivities that you’re using gasoline...http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/25/norquist-more-people-will-die-because-bush-raised-cafe-standards/

1. Grover Norquist is one of the most loathsome people walking the planet
I'll stop short of wishing him dead, but I wouldn't mind seeing his beard catch on fire.

2. How many died in NOLA
Because Grover wanted a government so small that you could drown it in a bathtub?

4. Hey Gorver, if all cars are the same size it doesn't matter.
Larger mass = larger force of impact. Smaller mass = smaller force of impact. Two SUVs hitting each other at 65 MPH will cause as much damage as two compacts hitting each other at the same speed. You are, more then likey, not going to survive in either collision. If you really want to make a difference with MVA survivability you should reduce the speed.

5. I've been in the vehicular transportation business for 20 years as of this year...
...and I'll say that anyone who depends on the inertial strength of their vehicle to keep them safe is a fucking menace!
